Pronounced Day-na and for a girl.

What do you think? Too American? Too X-Filey?

I know it's not a popular name at all and I've never met one in real life, but I love it.

I know one, pronounced Da na. Lovely lovely girl

Algorithm · 21/01/2014 19:56

I used to love Dana pronounced how you're saying it when I was younger as I knew a little girl with the Bratz dolls and there was a Dana doll but that was in my 90210 phase Blush but I think with the right MN and surname it would be fine :) If you like the letters more than the pronunciation there is always Diana.

FlyAwayToMalibu · 21/01/2014 20:09

I like it - reminds me of Dana Scully and Dana from According to Jim. Pretty name and unusual.

Sammie101 · 21/01/2014 20:23

I like it Smile

LynetteScavo · 21/01/2014 20:28

Don't American's say Dar-ner?

An American I knew had sisters called "Darner" and "Deeanne" but I think they were spelled Dana an Diane. Confused

It's not my cup of tea, but hey.

Gileswithachainsaw · 21/01/2014 20:42

If ever there's a dd3 I'd have that on a list !! :)

JessicaD21 · 21/01/2014 21:03

Gileswithachainsaw · 21/01/2014 21:17

Oh and it can't be too x Filey!!!

Worse name sakes than Dana scully :)

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/01/2014 21:43

It is quite American but not in the same way say, Randy is.

Perfectly workable in the UK, people may be inclined to say Dahna (as in Dana International) initially. Easily corrected though.

mathanxiety · 26/01/2014 00:30

Americans say Day-na. It's a unisex name there.

SS3J · 26/01/2014 13:51

I like it, but would pronounce it Dar-na (as I have known one pronounced that way). But if you don't mind correcting people then go for it. I have known it short for Daniella too, if you like that option.

VelmaD · 26/01/2014 13:52

Dana was the name of sigoney weavers character in Ghostbusters wasn't it? Great name :-)

strawberryswing · 27/01/2014 14:37

This is my aunts name, spelled Daina. I like it :)

FlipFantasia · 27/01/2014 16:27

All I would think of is "All kinds of everything" by Dana - won the Eurovision for Ireland in 1970 and was still popular in my Irish childhood in the 70s & 80s. Not a name I've ever liked.

I'd prefer Daina if that's the pronunciation you want. I've not come across that before (and I live in the US now!) and I like it.

squoosh · 27/01/2014 17:17

'All I would think of is "All kinds of everything" by Dana - won the Eurovision for Ireland in 1970 and was still popular in my Irish childhood in the 70s & 80s. Not a name I've ever liked.'

Me either. Not a good association, she's a religious, right wing, loon bag.

FlipFantasia · 27/01/2014 21:10

Squoosh has just summed Dana up perfectly!

MrsJoeDolan · 31/01/2014 21:05

+1 to sqoosh and flip. Dana is a madser

mathanxiety · 01/02/2014 04:00

When she ran for President even my mum was Hmm

PrincessPotsie · 01/02/2014 04:32

I think I'd change the spelling as she'll be correcting being called Dar-na all her life.
