Maeve?

Girl on the way Shock...my Nan's middle name was May as is mine but everyone seems to be putting May in the middle these days!

Now thinking about making it a first name maybe in the form of Maeve? Someone said it was pronounced May-vee but always thought it sounded like Mave. Can anyone clarify?

DH and DS have just called her Lolly for the last 6 weeks....pretty sure this will stick. Anyone know if it's short for Lauren or something similar?

Maeve is lovely and is Mave, not Mayvee.

Lolly could be short for Lauren, Laura, Louise, Louisa, Dolores

Maeve is Mave, surely?!

Lolly could be short for Lauren, Laurel, Laura, Louella, Lorelei, Lillian etc...

Yes, it's pronounced Mave. It's very popular in Ireland with various different spellings.

Thank you. Thought may-vee sounded odd.

Sure DH is thinking we will go to registry office and actually call her Lolly!

I think Maeve makes for a gorgeous MN. I knew a girl who was about 8 when I was in my late teens called Maeve and I just detested it as a first name if I'm honest as it didn't shorten very well and sounded aging on such a young girl however I think it is a gorgeous name. I think something like Laurel/Lauren but with three syllables with Maeve after sounds great.

Sorry for the essay - feeling rather analytic tonight Hmm

Love it. Considered it for dd1 but decided we wanted more syllables!

Deffo not May-Vee. :)

Love Maeve. Also love Lolly. I've heard it as a nickname for Loretta.

may eff or may ove (think love without the l) is how I would pronounce maeve.its a very popular name here in ireland. Also the name of one of the famous evil queens of irish legend.:)

it has a bit of regional variations on pronunciation but may vee isnt one of them im afraid.

I have a 3yr old Maeve and abs love it, a pretty little girls name and a beautiful woman's name for her to grow with. IMO of course! She is frequently complimented on her name, is the only one at nursery and v likely to be the only one at primary school (live in London) and the spelling is simple enough. Pronounced Mave.

Beautiful name and I only know two.
