If I like Mariella....

What other names might I like?

My other favourite girls name is Emma, but I can't help but feel drawn to Mariella as something a bit different.

I stated another thread pondering potential nicknames for Mariella as am not massively keen on Mari/Marie and OH not keen on Ella by itself. It got me wondering whether to stick with Mariella or if there are other names I might like along the same lines.

Marinela or Marilena? Marlena (Polish, pronounced Mar-lenna). Marlies?

MrsMarigold · 15/01/2014 22:21

I love Marielle rather than Mariella, in fact my best friend is called Marielle and she is very glamourous.

Love mariella and marielle. I would want either of these if I ever have another girl.

Can't you have Mariella and just not have a NN?

Evangeline?

Thanks all! I do like some of the suggestions, particularly Marianne. But I do think it has confirmed how much I love Mariella!

I also take the point re nicknames, I would want her to be Mariella, but I just know that I and others tend to shorten/lengthen/alter names and I suppose I want to be comfortable that there is a nickname out there that I really like (especially as am not so keen on Mari/Marie).

Maristella (Italian version of Maria Stella) - nn Stella?

LeaveItItsNotWorthIt · 18/01/2014 00:22

I knew of a mariella nn ria
could you have mia or riel (ree-ell) or Ariel or mara or Ellie? X

LeaveItItsNotWorthIt · 18/01/2014 00:23

Or have aribella?

BillyBanter · 18/01/2014 00:29

Marnie no shortening required
Ariella Ari instead of Mari.

You can give her what ever nn you want. I know one of my DNs has had quite a few nn in her short life, none of them bearing much resemblance to her actual name.

I know it's not what you asked but I teach a Mariella (no nickname or shortening) and she's an absolute gem. Beautiful girl inside and out. I'm sure yours will be too.

Mirabella

insanelycheerful · 18/01/2014 11:00

I take your point Billy, DH gave his sister a nickname when they were kids and it's nothing like her real name but it has always stuck! And I know nicknames usually just happen don't they?

Baggy that is lovely to hear about the Mariella you know. Your comment made me have a little excited flutter in case it's a little Mariella in my tum!

Mariella is so pretty, not at all common plus it's straightforward to spell. It's a lovely name.
