sorry, about my fourth thread on here as we have been going round in circles. previous contenders for ds2 (sams brother) have been robert and nathaniel. matthew has come out of the woodwork suddenly as a name we could grow to love, we think, feeling perhaps similarly to how we felt about samuel.

thoughts?

Love Matthew, I don't think you could go wrong with it. I have a friend who named her first son Matthew.

Itsaburrdiee · 14/01/2014 22:23

All the names mentioned have a similar feel. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them but yes, I do particularly like Matthew.

Mrswellyboot · 14/01/2014 22:24

I like it a lot.

Pinkandwhite · 14/01/2014 22:25

I like the name Matthew a lot. It's a great name in its own right and it also goes well with Sam. I think its a very strong name. I also like the name Nathaniel a lot... Sorry that's not very helpful is it?! I just thought I'd say that as its another one of your contenders.

DramaAlpaca · 14/01/2014 22:26

It's a lovely name which goes well with Samuel. Sam & Matt are nice together for two brothers.

mummy1973 · 14/01/2014 22:27

Agree with drama

Bowlersarm · 14/01/2014 22:27

Really lovely. Do you like Matt?

I love it, a cool teen name, but goes well at every age.

Christelle2207 · 14/01/2014 22:29

I like it, but he will likely become Matt whether you like it or not so do consider that.

sydenhamhiller · 14/01/2014 22:32

love Matthew, DC1's middle name. Also love Robert- 3 children and 3 years of childminding never met a wee Robert. We were considering if DC3 was a boy -- love nickname Robbie.

Rhuba · 14/01/2014 22:33

I love Matthew. A good strong name.

Ilovekittyelise · 14/01/2014 22:34

i have to say, in general i dont love most names shortened, other than samuel, who was always going tobe sam (and bloody sammy to the inlaws who just refuse to take on board that we hate it!) but i know we dont have control over that and matt it will probably end up, which im ok with (but matty i cannot abide i hope you are listening mil).

there are very few names we both like to be honest. so anything we agree on is going to be fairly neutral!

How could you possibly go wrong with Matthew? My husband and brother are both called Matthew....fab name Smile.

MacaYoniandCheese · 14/01/2014 22:46

And calm down about nicknames...they are totally organic and will happen whether you like them or not. I almost didn't choose my daughter's name because of the possible nickname but invariably, all that love her end up calling her by it (even me) and it has grown on me. Think of it as a term of endearment Grin.

soontobeslendergirl · 14/01/2014 22:47

I really like Matthew and it goes well with Sam. I also think Daniel (Dan) would go nicely too and has a similar feel. I like Robert and Nathaniel, but Matthew or Daniel go better and feel similar.

....or Joseph (Joe) too.

Ilovekittyelise · 14/01/2014 22:49

we like joseph as well but somehow it doesnt feel right as my son, if that makes any sense at all?!

HoarsePlatitudes · 14/01/2014 22:51

I love Matthew. I married one :)

Mrswellyboot · 14/01/2014 22:56

We also like Joseph but I felt too I couldn't imagine it for a baby,
James is lovely.

zimmyzammyzoom · 14/01/2014 22:57

We've got a Matthew, so obviously love it. He's Matty as a baby (sorry, I know you said you couldn't abide it but I think it's quite cuteSmile), then assume will be Matt when older which I think is quite cool too. Goes well with Sam (your in laws will call him Matty though!)

BackforGood · 14/01/2014 23:01

Lovely name Smile

Ilovekittyelise · 14/01/2014 23:04

thanks everyone thats nice feedback.

mrswellyboot james has always been one if my favourites, if not the favourite but my husbands never loved it enough.

hes even liking matthew alexander, which is promising! (i dont know why but i just love alexander as a mn, but not as a first name).

My Matthew is now taller than me and is Matthew at home but Matt at school. I like Matt but when he was a baby it seemed to old for him - it was a bigger boy running around playing football or rugby not my baby!

His friends at school are Sam and Dan.

So it's a yes from me!

BruceyBaby · 14/01/2014 23:07

My son is called Matthew and now that he's older he's known as Matt by his friends ... suits him and is a good strong traditional name Grin

GimmeDaBoobehz · 14/01/2014 23:13

Love Matthew.

Would use it if we had a boy but DFiances brother is Matthew .

orangemouth281 · 16/01/2014 21:38

By far my favourite boys name but I married one so can't use it :(

Floggingmolly · 16/01/2014 21:42

It's lovely. But James is even lovelier Wink
