Flower type name suggestions with a twist

I would love to name future DD a flower name, BUT our surname is something you actually do with flowers so names like Rose, Violet etc do not work.

Any suggestions of names? Can be in languages other than English.

I wondered about Fleur or Flora...

Fantail · 14/01/2014 21:10

I have an Elanor, which is from Lord of the rings.

A tiny silver, gold or silver and gold star shaped flower which grows in the forest of Lothlorien. Samwise Gamgee's eldest daughter was named this (if you've watched the film it's the character's name of the little girl right at the end who Sam picks up to go into his house)

Elanor is lovely, but we are both New Zealanders and also from Wellington so for us LOTR whilst wonderful is a little twee.

Yasmin is a great suggestion, I also like Yasmina.

Bush?

(Surname guess!)

Fantail · 14/01/2014 21:17

mynameis - it is reasonably rare so don't want to use it here

Jacques - Posy is a nn I would love to use for Josephine, and I do love Margaret nn Maggie (although I know that since Thatcher there are question marks over the name and we are very definitely not Tories).

Only1 - Aurelia is beautiful

Bryony?

Vatta · 14/01/2014 21:31

Daphne means laurel.

Anfisa is a Russian name that means flower.

Tamara means palm tree.

There are lots of welsh names with flower meanings eg briallen means primrose.

Any good? Also really curious as to your surname!

HyvaPaiva · 14/01/2014 21:31

Kukka (Kuuh-k-kuh) is a Finnish first name that means flower. It's a lovely name.

It sounds nothing like 'cooker' I promise! A long first syllable and a very short second syllable is the best I can explain. It comes from the verb 'kukkia', meaning to thrive and to bloom.

I know a Kukka who particularly suits her bright, floral, happy name.
