Flower type name suggestions with a twist

I would love to name future DD a flower name, BUT our surname is something you actually do with flowers so names like Rose, Violet etc do not work.

Any suggestions of names? Can be in languages other than English.

I wondered about Fleur or Flora...

Katniss
Florence

TheLostPelvic - Veronica is actually a favourite name of mine, but for various reasons is not a possibility. Blossom is probably a bit too hippy for us.

Mynameis - Pearl is actually a family name on DH's side.

Annunziata - to do like Teresa and I have had Dorothy at the back of my mind for a long time.

Lillia?

MoonlightandRoses · 14/01/2014 21:38

There's a good list on BehindtheName to get you started.

HP - Sorry, but pronouncing Kukka with a long u and a short a sounds very much like (in my head, at least) the way my scouse nan would pronounce cooker!

TwoCatsInTheYard · 14/01/2014 21:42

To be more helpful to the OP, I am sure there are some lovely Arabic origin names meaning various types of flowers. I can't think of any off the top of my head but will post if I think of any.

acrabadabra · 14/01/2014 21:43

How about Cala (lily)
Or Fern
Or Prim
Ivy?

meditrina · 14/01/2014 21:45

My first thought was Triffid, closely followed by Audrey!

How about: ffion, Hebe, Lin, Josephine (Posy), Lavender, Honeysuckle, Petunia, Zinnia?

Fantail · 14/01/2014 21:52

TwoCats - yes please on the names of Arabic origin.

Hyva - Am not sure Kukka would work in a New Zealand accent (although my ear is not as well tuned as it used to be). But we have travelled a lot in Scandinavia and I reckon I could convince DH on a Norweigen, Swedish, Finnish or Danish name quite easily.

ohmymimi · 15/01/2014 10:03

Fiorella - Italian for little flower

squoosh · 15/01/2014 11:05

Aster is lovely, it's a flower name but not recognisably botanical for most people.

Juniper
Cherry

fairnotfair · 15/01/2014 14:42

sausageandorangepickle · 15/01/2014 21:28

Was going to suggest Erica too, but HemlockStarglimmer (lovely fairy name btw) beat me to it

Mabelandrose · 17/01/2014 08:16

Thepoodoctor · 18/01/2014 07:10

How about Zara, Zahra or Zarah?

Has a few meanings but at least one of them is 'blossom' or 'flower'

Fantail · 18/01/2014 07:37

Zara was a finalist for DD but we were put off a bit because of the shop.
