I saw the hobbit and thought as a standalone name this is nice - unusual, sounds nice, looks nice written down. What does everyone else think?

Like it :)

Might get a few Hmm faces at first, but it's good.

Belize · 12/01/2014 21:16

Oakenshield!

I do like it actually.

dementedma · 12/01/2014 21:18

I actually like it for a boy, but if he's a little un you might get some dwarf-related teasing.

ViviDeBeauvoir · 12/01/2014 21:18

I love it. I may be biased as Ds2 has a very similar name

caramelwaffle · 12/01/2014 21:19

I like it.

It is a "soft" sounding name.

Astarael · 12/01/2014 21:19

Totally going on my list for dc #2

LCHammer · 12/01/2014 21:20

Like Soren with a lisp.

Ruprekt · 12/01/2014 21:21

Sounds like a medication.......Grin

beedles17 · 12/01/2014 21:55

oh god no!

coffeeinbed · 12/01/2014 21:56

You cannot possibly name a baby after a dwarf from a book.
Wake up!

pictish · 12/01/2014 21:59

No!
Too contrived and obvious, sorry. It's from The Hobbit, and belongs there.

ViviDeBeauvoir · 12/01/2014 22:05

Is it not pronounced with a 'T' sound rather than a 'Th' sound?

Ememem84 · 12/01/2014 22:15

I love it. And was on my just if hypothetical future baby names for our hypothetical child. Dh liked it. But then found out my godson us called Aragon. He now thinks family is a bit nuts. Too late....

serin · 12/01/2014 22:16

Is it freezing lad?

Nah, it's Thorin.

pictish · 12/01/2014 22:17

Torrin is a Scots name. It is Gaelic for 'little hill'.
Very nice it is too.

Much better than using a blockbuster movie name surely?

willyoulistentome · 12/01/2014 22:18

Just don't! !. You may as well call it chewbacca

Ruprekt · 12/01/2014 22:30

Now Chewbacca I like......GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Torin is a child at my school.....brother is Tathan. Any good?

These threads are always good for a laugh.

Selks · 12/01/2014 22:36

It sounds like some thyroid medication.

Xfirefly · 12/01/2014 22:41

I liked it...DP looked at me in horror when I suggested it. Grin

crumpet · 12/01/2014 22:49

People will snigger. Perhaps not you your or Thorin's face. After that they will then get used to the name I guess. But still have it in their back pocket as a conversational gambit "you'll never guess the name of a baby/person I know..."

crumpet · 12/01/2014 22:50

And I speak as a lover of all things Tolkien

gruffalosfriend · 12/01/2014 23:20

I like Torin (pronounced Tor-in).
