Boys names - what's similiar to Charles, Federick, Henry, Hugh & Sebastian?

I'm 31 weeks with a little boy and we are really struggling with names. It feels like all the names we like are already taken by close family and friends. If we like the following, what else might we like?
Charles/Charlie
Federick/Freddie
Henry
Hugh/Hugo
Sebastian

Tell me about it isabella!
DH list is basically:

  1. Charles/Charlie
  2. Federick/Freddie
  3. Henry
  4. Hugh/Hugo
  5. Alexander
  6. George
  7. Richard
  8. Nicholas
  9. Matthew
10. James

1-4 are out of the question as they've already been used by close family and friends. I agree that 5-10 are nice, inoffensive names and would consider most of them for middle names but I just don't like them enough to use as first names - I prefer the suggestions that you lovely ladies have made. Majority of which I'd already tried out on DH with no luck.

I agree that your husband's list is nice... solid, traditional names!

The only one I would use as a first name is George cos solid and traditional names are not to my taste. George seems a bit more cool IYSWIM?

I like nicholas and matthew best from your husband's list.

Alfred might work for you both?

John is a great name and rarely used now.

Edward has great nn, Ned, Ted, etc

Daniel might appeal?

Timothy?

I like your DH's names.

Particularly Nicholas nn Nick, and Matthew nn Matt.

Both unusual but classic, and i imagine them as uber cool teens and young men. But they are names which work for all ages.

My 3 sons names are all on here. And 2 of their middle names. Your husbands list is basically my list. Although my boys are now late teens/early 20's. a fall back name I considered was Oliver.

Right with you HoneyandRum!

Christian
Frances

May appeal to your husband, quite traditional but unusual right now (don't know any). I share your taste (have a Lucien)

Matthias? To jazz up his Matthew?
Willem
Marcus

Can you drag DH out of his comfort zone? I worked on mine with DS2 and he came to love my suggestion. I think the key is not to accept the knee jerk "No!" tell him to sit with any suggestion for a couple of days

ghislaine · 12/01/2014 22:09

My two sons' names are in your 1-4. Their middles names are Digby Francis and Aloysius Hector. Others I liked were Crispin and Bede. We also came very close go using Edmund. I like John too, rarely used these days.

Some great suggestions on here - makes me want to have another baby (but that's an issue for another thread Wink

I have a 3 year old George and adore his name so I would choose that. However, my taste is closer to yours than your DH's and my DH was more conservative like your DH, hence we landed on George, whereas I wanted Barnaby, Rupert, Humphrey, Albert, Arthur etc.

Ooh and Rufus. Theodore is also nice but a little popular for my liking.

Hector is also great. You have my exact taste!

What girls names do you like? (so I can add them to my list for imaginary third baby?)
