Not a fan. There's nothing wrong with it as such but it's a bit like Dawn or Lorna, sounds dated bu not in a good way.

soontobeslendergirl · 08/01/2014 18:29

I like it - heard someone shouting on a little Shona recently :)

I prefer Lorna though.

Sosohappy · 08/01/2014 18:35

Love it. I have a niece called Shona, she's a teenager now bad the name still really suits her Smile

MrsHappyBee · 08/01/2014 18:42

I love it esp. with a Scottish surname. I also like Fiona and Iona.

DuchessofKirkcaldy · 08/01/2014 18:51

Like it.

Was it the Twinkle comic that had a little girl called Shona as one of their characters? A little Highland lass.

I like it. Strong but feminine.

I also like Fiona and Iona.

Growing up in the 80s in Scotland, I loved the name Shona and there were loads of girls called it. But to me, it's stuck firmly in the 1980s. I can't imagine a baby one, the same as I can't imagine a baby Sharon. That puts me off the name, unfortunately.

Wishfulmakeupping · 08/01/2014 19:01

Don't like it does seem dated

wetaugust · 08/01/2014 21:42

Not dated - lovely.

EmpressOfTheWellOfLostPlots · 08/01/2014 21:44

Pretty and nowadays unusual.

Charotte31 · 08/01/2014 22:03

I didn't think it was that dated?!
I like Iona to but already have an Isla, they don't really go!

I don't think it's dated at all - it's a classic Scottish name. Now if you were to say Sheena........that's dated!! or a dog's name

Froblawd · 08/01/2014 22:30

I have a cousin called Shona. But the name always reminds me of the 90's Scottish 'sitcom' the Highlife.

SS3J · 10/01/2014 15:39

I also think of it as being a bit 80s, but not in a bad way. I quite like it.

When I hear it I think of Shona McSpurtle from The High Life so on that basis it's a no from me.

peppinagiro · 10/01/2014 16:00

I don't like the 'on' sound in Shona, Iona, fiona etc. It sounds weighty and thuddy and like it's dragging it down. Like 'moan' or 'groan'. But looks like nobody else makes that association!

ThePlEWhoLovedMe · 11/01/2014 14:20

I had a dream I had a baby called Shona last night !!

I love the name, I also like; Sadie, Shauna and Siane.

Graceparkhill · 11/01/2014 14:22

I like Shona- classic, not too popular ( at present), easy to spell and pronounce.

AuntieStella · 11/01/2014 14:37

I'd think of the tribe.

thegreylady · 11/01/2014 20:14

My friend has an Isla and an Iona :) I had a friend named Shona back in the 60s.I think it is a soft pretty name. Her brother was Henry which was really odd then but very popular now :)
