It's sweet and quite cool. I think it would suit baby/teen/man quite well.

UriGeller · 06/01/2014 19:52

I like it.

scratchandsniff · 06/01/2014 19:53

I like it

Bunbaker · 06/01/2014 19:57

No. It makes me think of Sonny and Cher. It can also be a bit of a derogatory way to speak to a little boy - "listen here sonny"

Jellykat · 06/01/2014 19:59

Love it, was almost DS2s name, but went for something very very similar at the last minute.

AryaofhouseSnark · 06/01/2014 20:02

Love it. Some people will think it doesn't pass the high court judge test, but I really like it.

bLooming2 · 06/01/2014 20:03

oo jellykat what did you name your son I absolutely love this name husband having nun of it at the moment Sad x

I'm not keen on it either.
As bunbaker describes, not a particularly positive way of referring to a small boy and I think that's what I think of when I hear it.

sonlypuppyfat · 06/01/2014 20:04

Nice and cute for a baby but no way for a man, can you imagine having a boss calles Sonny.

Anjou · 06/01/2014 20:08

I really like it. It was on the short list or DS1. Whilst I love it, I like to have options with names and always prefer to have names that can be shortened or have a nn. Sonny, for me, was already like a shortened name. I wouldn't bat an eyelid if it was someone else's baby though - I'd just think "that's such a cool name!".

If you want it as a nn, how about names ending in 'son'? Jackson, Jenson, Harrison ... I'm sure there are others. Smile

Frontdoorstep · 06/01/2014 21:21

Makes me think of Sonny and Cher too. Also agree that people do refer to people as sonny, "how you doing sonny", but maybe that's more soecificto certain areas of the country.

Selks · 06/01/2014 21:32

V trendy at the moment. I know two baby Sonnys. I fear it may be one of those names that dates quickly due to the trendy factor.

Also, it's not actually a real name is it?

okthen · 06/01/2014 21:33

Love. Could be a nickname for Solomon (my no 1 boys name if we have another)

Jellykat · 06/01/2014 22:09

bLooming2 have PMed you Smile

Greentoothbrush · 07/01/2014 00:59

Names are a very personal thing... Each to their own etc but my opinion is ... Ew. Not keen one bit, sorry.

squoosh · 07/01/2014 10:49

I know a lovely Sonny who's about 13.

Bowlersarm · 07/01/2014 10:51

Really dislike it.

LyndaCartersBigPants · 07/01/2014 10:55

I really like it, I know a little 5 yo Sonny who is really lovely.

I think there are plenty who don't see it as a 'real name' though, unless it's short for something else, Harrison, Grayson etc.

Unless your DH is keen on any of those (and then you can use the NN Sonny and he can use his own version) then there's not much you can do!
