Hi thoughts on the name Rory please? And does it sound ok with siblings Riley and Laila? Or is Rory to much like Riley? Thank you

I love it for a girl and like it for a boy but I do think it's too similar to Riley.

Any other possibles?

rileylaila5 · 05/01/2014 16:33

I think it is too similar to Riley too.

lljkk · 05/01/2014 16:38

Doesn't seem remotely like Riley to me! I would have thought Riley & Laila were more alike already.

Not a name I'd choose but fine, use it if you like it.

Do any of these appeal?

I think it`s a bit too similar in sound to Riley.

Even though I like the name, I`d be a bit wary of using it in case LO has difficulty pronouncing his "r"s. I know a grown man with this problem.

MoonHare · 05/01/2014 17:05

Too similar to Riley imo, starting and ending with the same sound.

Toby?

Skrifa · 05/01/2014 17:16

I love it. Not too similar to Riley either imo.

ShadowFall · 05/01/2014 17:23

Yes, Rory sounds very similar to Riley.

Theonlyoneiknow · 05/01/2014 17:27

They sound similar but look very different written down.I have this with my DC. What about Rhuairdh (sorry have prob misspelt it). Rory is a fab name

HaPPy8 · 05/01/2014 17:30

Love it, great name.

Rosencrantz · 05/01/2014 21:00

Waaaay too similar.

nichib83 · 11/01/2014 17:49

My middle son is called Rory. Love that name so much! No, I don't think they are too similar!!

Wherediparkmybroom · 11/01/2014 17:50

Sorry but.........RORY the racing car.....

buttercrumble · 11/01/2014 17:53

Love it

HyvaPaiva · 11/01/2014 17:53

I think they are too similar. Saying them together made me go 'Rory and Rirey' but that may just be me Grin. I do like the name but I'd only spell it Ruairidh.

Wherediparkmybroom · 11/01/2014 18:38

What about ronnie

Janorisa · 11/01/2014 18:41

I love Rory. I don't think it's too similar

rileylaila5 · 11/01/2014 22:29

Thanks for your opinions seems like more people think it's similar to Riley which is a shame as I love it!

If you love it USE IT!

That is what matters, otherwise you might always regret not using the name you loved just because a handful of strangers on the internet said they didn't like it.

And, how often will you be saying their names together anyway, especially as they get older and go their separate ways in the world. Rory is a fab name!!

My DC have similar sounding names but there was no way I was calling my daughter anything else despite the alliteration. They only time it comes up is if I meet someone knew and tell them my children's names, otherwise they aren't really said together.

Theonlyoneiknow · 11/01/2014 22:40

Sorry, new not knew! Darn autocorrect

working9while5 · 11/01/2014 22:50

I have one. He is 19 months and I am just so happy with it as a name. Never felt that way about my older one. Pregnant with dc3 and feel I'll never be as happy about a name again.

He is currently calling himself 'oh-wee' or 'woh-wee' very excitedly all the time and I love it. I'm a speech therapist so will knock any residual r articulations out of him in a few years if necessary Grin
