What do you think of the name Ellis for a boy? And do you prefer Ellis or Elliot?

Thanks

I like both.

eatyourveg · 05/01/2014 09:29

Lots of relatives called Ellis. Elliot reminds me of ET

OhCaptainDarling · 05/01/2014 09:39

Prefer Elliot, IMO it's more classic.

Theonlyoneiknow · 05/01/2014 09:46

I prefer Elliot, i know both boys and girls called Ellis, like the name.

ch1134 · 05/01/2014 10:15

I like Ellis

Leeds2 · 05/01/2014 10:15

Wouldn't choose either. Elliot reminds me of ET too, although I prefer it to Ellis.

missmargot · 05/01/2014 10:15

I really like Ellis, I like Elliot too but prefer Ellis.

whatshallwedo · 05/01/2014 10:54

I like Ellis, it was on our list had we have had a boy Smile

soontobeslendergirl · 05/01/2014 11:14

Elliot definitely. The only Ellis I know is a teenager who is an absolute shite, think shoplifter, truant, drinking, smoking etc.

SS3J · 05/01/2014 12:51

I prefer Elliot - that was on my boys list before DP vetoed :-( but I like both. I've never met an Ellis, although I know people with the surname.

scaevola · 05/01/2014 12:52

I prefer Ellis, but think both are lovely.

Onesleeptillwembley · 05/01/2014 12:53

Too surnamey.

BoysRule · 05/01/2014 12:55

DC2s middle name is Ellis as it is a family surname. My DH wanted it to be his first name but someone said to me it sounded too much like Alice. Shout it out as if you are calling someone and it does!

badtime · 05/01/2014 13:25

Ellis was a given name before it was a surname. It was popular in the Middle Ages as a variant of Elias.

I prefer Ellis - Elliot seems too American.

Frontdoorstep · 05/01/2014 14:49

I like Ellis for a girl but not so keen for a boy tbh, it seems a girly name to me but maybe that's because the Ellis's I know are all girls. I would pick Elliot for a boy.

picnicbasketcase · 05/01/2014 14:51

I like it. Also looks nice spelled Elis.

Lilyrose13 · 05/01/2014 17:39

I hadn't heard of the name Ellis till I met someone at work with that name...but it really started to grow on me. Much prefer it to Elliott :-)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/01/2014 17:41

Love Ellis. Not over fond of Elliot - always think ET.

chestnut100 · 05/01/2014 17:43

I have an Ellis. I love it. It's made it just into the top 100 this time around. So I'm confident it's not too "out there" but that there won't be 3 others in his class.

Curlygirly · 05/01/2014 18:25

Love Ellis. I like Elias too. I have an Eli.

Rosencrantz · 05/01/2014 20:59

Ellis is lovely!
