Gabriel, Raphael or Aaron?

3 weeks to go before DS will be born, and we can't agree on a name. I wanted to name him Raphael, DH likes Aaron (as he thinks Raphael is too Italian-sounding - I disagree), and now Gabriel has come up as a possibility. Which to choose?

i really like Raphael, have never met any Italians called this, mostly Polish in fact, but anyway it is a lovely international name.
Gabriel would suffer from the GAY in the first syllable.
Aaron - a bit 'meh' as there are so many of them around (with varied spelling and pron.)

I like Aaron best, it sounds more down to earth iyswim. Raphael is quite handsome but I would associate with Italian or angelic type. I like Raph as a nickname though, so if could work, and is my second favourite. Gabriel, I am a bit meh about, it sounds quite dull imo.

So for me, Aaron, then Raphael.

Gabriel. Was on my list for dc2 (who was a girl )

Timetoask · 03/01/2014 06:24

I really like Gabriela for a girl, but really hate it for a boy. Seems to be a very wishy woshy person, not a very strong personality (IMO).
Raphael is not my cup of tea at all.
Aaron from your list.

You need to choose a name that your dh and you both love and if that is Gabriel, then go for it. Good solid name imo.

Thank you very much mums, really appreciate your feedback.

I love Gabriel and Raphael. Don't think Gabriel, is wishy washy at all, it makes me think of some swashbuckling, devastatingly handsome romantic hero.

Not keen on Aaron.

Theonlyoneiknow · 03/01/2014 12:43

I like Gabriel and Aaron (have you thought about Arran?)

jwwh · 06/01/2014 11:05

Arran, as in the Scottish island? Didn't know that was a name, not bad actually, since DH insists on pronouncing Aaron as "Arran" anyway (I always thought it was Air-on, but don't feel strongly). I think we're back to square one. big sigh. Need to think of more names.

Don't know any little kids called Gabriel, so I'm confused on that one too, I only think of Gabriel Byrne.

Yes, I know of two boys called Arran. Lovely island too ::)

QuietNinjaTardis · 06/01/2014 11:25

Gabriel was one of the names I wanted for ds, Dh vetoed but I sneaked it in as a middle name. We also discussed rafe for a boy this time possibly with the long name Raphael which is also lovely. Aaron is a bit meh in my opinion, plus I knew one who was a bit of a cock.
My fave would be Gabriel.

jwwh · 06/01/2014 11:27

Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, I thought Aaron was meh as well, but I think it's growing on me (but I don't want my son to be a cock...) Pregnancy hormones making me so indecisive! Didn't realise how well liked Gabriel is.

Aaron should be pronounced Air-on - otherwise spell it Arran as suggested.
I think they are all nice to be honest - I might avoid gabriel just in case child was not angelic! Prefer Raf or Rafe to Gabe though if thinking of likely nicknames in future.

NoComet · 06/01/2014 11:57

My first choice would be Aaron (air-Ron)
Then Arran
Gabriel
Raphael is just too flowery for a boy. Raphs ok as a NN

snowed · 06/01/2014 12:13

Aaron (Air-on)
