Think we've decided!

We've pretty well decided on...
Alice!

What are people's thoughts and reactions on this name? Classic, strong, feminine, funky, boring, wannabe posh?!

I really like it, I think it is classic and well known enough that people know it/know how to spell it etc, but not totally ubiquitous. However, if it does become very popular (I think it is creeping up the lists) it has a classic feel so will still not seem "faddy".

Middle name will be Amy (a family member's name) and surname begins O'...

So Alice Amy O'...

Thanks Smile

I love it and I normally have an pretty out there taste in names.
As classics go, it's the best by far and I know a couple of really gorgeous cool Alices!

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2014 17:37

I adore the name Alice! And I love Alice Amy O'... It's classic, pretty & works from babyhood into adulthood.

Makes me wish I'd had a DD. Only it wouldn't have worked with our surname Sad

squoosh · 02/01/2014 17:39

Definitely not funky!

It's demure and pretty.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/01/2014 17:39

I really like Alice, but not convinced by Alice Amy, sorry.

sonlypuppyfat · 02/01/2014 17:40

Very very nice. A proper name at long last.

givemeaclue · 02/01/2014 17:40

Yes very pretty and classic , will never date, there will prob be a few at school but often it is a middle name.

LCHammer · 02/01/2014 17:44

Alice is sweet. I think it'd need a stronger middle name.

squoosh · 02/01/2014 17:45

A proper name at long last?

These boards are chock filled with 'proper' names. Hmm

JuniorMint · 02/01/2014 17:53

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I really like it and am really pleased with the decision. We had strongly considered some other more unusual or more "faddy" names (I had a thread on Emmy last month) which I still like but I know Alice is the right choice for us!

I take people's point about the middle name Amy- I do like some stronger names too like Alice Elizabeth, but Amy is my wonderful sister's name and I would really love to honour her in this way. She will be so surprised as we have discussed names so much and I've never let on once, despite us going through every other female name in mine and DH's families! Plus I don't think she will be going by "Alice Amy" as a full name. My middle name is my grandma's name and while I don't dislike it or shy away from it, I wouldn't say it's a major part of my name/ life, in fact many of my current friends probably don't even know it, it's just a nice tribute to a family member to me, if you see what I mean.

Alice is a great name. Not sure if it's getting more popular, but I don't know any, so would say it's an underused classic.

CPtart · 02/01/2014 19:09

Alice Elizabeth Amy is lovely

Amy106 · 02/01/2014 19:18

I think is Alice is lovely-good for a little girl, good for when she is all grown up too.
As for Amy, well what can I say? Grin I like it and although it is not my name in RL, it holds some happy memories for me.

toobreathless · 02/01/2014 19:28

Don't like it sorry, there's nothing wrong with it, a good strong name and classic IMO it won't date. I just can't see further than the fact that split up its 'a lice' but that is just me and it helpful. I know one under 5, one teen and one in her 30s.

I would agree that Alice Amy is a bit much but with second middle name would be lovely:

Alice Verity Amy
Alice Grace Amy
Alice Florence Amy
Alice Beatrice/Beatrix Amy

toobreathless · 02/01/2014 19:28

& it's NOT helpful.

Sorry typo.

JuniorMint · 02/01/2014 19:33

Ha, it's funny you should say that toobreathless about 'a lice'- we went to Mamas and Papas sale the other day and I got some of their letter bunting. Really sweet, and reduced from £2.75 to £1 each so although we've only just decided on Alice, I thought I'd go for it. However, 'A' must be a popular letter as I couldn't find one anywhere! I checked online and I should be able to order one, but DH and I were laughing in the shop buying bunting spelling out

'L I C E'! Grin

I think Alice is absolutely lovely and you should definitely use it!

However, I really don't like the overload of vowels in Alice Amy O'.
