DH and I both have a favourite baby name that we've loved for years, but they're not the same name!

Did anyone else have this? How did you decide? I guess we're just going to have to choose a different name that we both like instead, but would be interested to hear others' experiences.

How many people decided, when the baby arrived, that the chosen name just didn't suit the baby?

Not due until June, so plenty of time. We don't know the gender and so far only have girls names. Boys names are so much harder to choose!

For me my parents wrote down 3 names of seperate pieces of paper and picked! My dad got his (not so nice) choice!

Yes! Me! I really wanted Ruari, DH really wanted Eric. There isn't a compromise, so we've reluctantly had to let these names go and start again from scratch. Fairly confident that now, with a week to go and in early labour, we've got a winner Grin

Luckily we both like the same names. However if we didn't I would choose the first name and then my husband would choose the middles names.

DH had really wanted Mia which I liked but wasn't excited by. When DD was born he agreed with me that my preferred name suited her better.

Buy two copies of the same baby name book and two highlighters and then separately get to work!

A new name is the only fair option.

We wrote down a top ten list each. DDs name was the only one on both lists.

We had this too, went for a completely different name as a compromise.

I wanted to call dd Laila. DH wanted nancy. We didn't agree before she was born. As I was in theatre recovery and dd was being taken to neo natal the midwife asked DH what we were calling her and he said nancy. At the time i was too unconscious then ill to care. But now I'm sad that she's not called Laila and as she's going to be an only it's a name I'll never get to use Sad

Same as sleep when we didn't know we were having a girl and were going through boys names it was a pita.
I've always, I mean always had my heart set on Henry OH wanted to use his name total deadlock we picked out a compromise in the end but luckily we had a girl whose name we both loved.
