Is it really tainted by the big brother girl? Or do you not think of her automatically?
A few comments like that are the only think stopping me from seeing it as a true contender.
Is it too popular or seen as chavvy now?!

I have one, she's just 4. In her nursery she's the only one in her age group (there is one in a younger group) and in her ballet class there was another about age 6. So not uncommon but not tonnes either. We are in the north west. I love her name still and never even think of the other Imogen (from BB) although it did stop me calling her younger sister Saskia (due to bb connection).

When I was pg I too thought of the name as being chavvy, but everyone around me thought otherwise and so i named my eldest DD Imogen. She's the only one in her school and all of her other activities, but I do know of one or two in neighbouring towns.

I think the name had quite posh connotations until Imogen of BB fame came along, but she's pretty much been forgotten about now.

I had no idea that it's considered chavvy. I would have considered it quite posh. I love it. And I like Ginny too.

Dil is a bobby and has opinions on lots of namesWink. Soon to be grandson was going to be Imogen if a girl. It's a lovely name.

I think it's quite posh too! Although my dd who is 2 is called Imogen. She is the only one in her nursery x

Good so glad to hear it. I wouldn't have thought of it as chavvy so it helps to get a wider opinion and consensus. It is a name I am seriously considering so just want to explore some of the less favourable big bro feedback I was given, but glad it seems like an unnecessary concern!

It used to be considered quite a posh name and definitely not chavvy.

It was favourite girls name for my baby, only he's a boy! I'd still use it next time if we has a Dd.

Definitely not chavvy. It's a lovely Shakespearean name which would have made our shortlist for dd had it not been for the fact that the Imogens we know all get shortened to Immy which we weren't keen on

To me it sounds like a handwash brand. Too much like germ. Sorry. However, I don't think there are any particular bad connotations to the name and wouldn't worry about bb girl. If you like it, use it!

Love love this name. Our first DD is called it. Then we had another DD, and couldn't think of anything we liked as much as Imogen. Nearly called her Imogen 2 Wink

Oh and to the pp... We do actually call our Imogen "gern" as that's how she used to say it herself! And I never made the germ connection...

This name was our runner up for DD1 and I was certain I would use it for DD2. When we saw DD2, we were so undecided, we even asked the midwife what she thought of the name (incidentally she really liked it) but in the end we went with our other choice.

Why? Mainly because I put up a lot of threads about this name and the replies came back telling it would be shortened to Immy, Imo etc (I don't like any shortenings of this name), I was also told whereas once it was a decent name, now it was being shouted out in the high street (basically I was being told it was quickly becoming a chav name) and reasonably or unreasonably this turned me off using the name. I still like the name but I'm happier now that we went with our runner up.

Lovely pretty name and I don't think it is "Chavvy" at all. I do think its become noticeably more popular but still not really over used. I only knew a couple when I was younger but you do hear it a lot more these days.

I only know one Imogen, a gorgeous 2 year old, and the family is the opposit of chavvy. It is a beautiful Shakesperean name from the play Cymbeline.

Yes thanks, I am very familiar with the Shakespearean link and origins. I just wanted to find out how the name is perceived on a broader basis these days. The feedback has been good. Some names seem to explode and lose their charm as a consequence.
