Before she was born our short list was, in order of preference:
Eilidh
Elena
Elise
Cara
Arianne
Jamie

Now she's here I just can't see any of them suiting her, although I still love all the names. The longer she's nameless the more confused I get so I have set a deadline of tomorrow morning to decide.

Please help me choose between one of these names or something else I might like even better.

Go with your favourite, she will grow into her name and in a few years (Months) you won't be able to imagine her as anything else.
Cara Elise is lovely if you decide not to use Eiladh.

IAmABam · 23/12/2013 18:32

OH has declared it to be embarrassing that she's still nameless.

I really like all of them apart from Jamie. ( Not helpful). Which name does she look like? Does she have a certain poise (Elena)? Does she seem very keen on company and friendly (Cara)? Does she seem passionate and musical (Eilidh)? Ask to be sent the name in a dream tonight, and it will come. Congratulations, btw, hope you are well Thanks

Agree with ATruth - babies rarely 'fit' their names, imo.

Dd1 we chose a name before she arrived loved it (still do). Then spent te next 3 years (no joke) calling her anything but her name as it didn't fit right. We even seriously discussed changin her name when she was 2.6, and using one of her middle names, as we truly never used her name. We didn't, and she is now her name, and suits it very well.

Dd2 we didn't choose a name before she arrived. She spent the first week or so nameless until we shuffled he middle names around. I liked it but didn't love it. Again we spent a couple of years using nicknames a her name was too grown up for a little baby. She is absolutely her name now, no question about it.

Ds we struggled with. We couldn't find a name we both loved. And ended up using a name in order to use the nickname (given past experiences!) so he has been called his proper name from the start. We will almost certainly never use his full name, and t seems odd when others do (elderly relations on Christmas cards for eg). Who knows how that one will pan out as he is only 1.

So, after all that waffle - choose what you love. It will come to fit your dd, even if it takes a little while.

Ask your OH how embarrassed he'd feel about announcing a name and then having to go round to everyone again 6 weeks later and explain that her name has been changed because he pushed her mother into picking a name when she wasn't ready to

IAmABam · 23/12/2013 18:37

The names were all chosen on the assurance of every midwife, consultant, medical student and scans that she was going to be a huge baby - she came out a rather petite 6 pounds 14 oz.

I like Arianne best, although I would spell in Ariane. But I agree that babies don't really 'look like' any name when they are born, they grow to suit them. Pick the one you like best!
Other ideas though, just in case... Alexane, Eliane/Eliana, Elisa/Lisa.
And congratulations on your daughter!

FortyMerryFuckers · 23/12/2013 18:40

I think you should pick the name you like best and not really worry if it's her she will grow into her name, whatever you pick.

HavantGuard · 23/12/2013 18:42

Relax, enjoy your lovely new baby and when you feel ready to pick a name remember that you will take time to get used to it.

DangoDays · 23/12/2013 18:42

Arianne is lovely. I like the infussiness of Cara too...

ivykaty44 · 23/12/2013 18:43

Arianne is lovely and Ivy

HSMMaCM · 23/12/2013 18:46

Don't worry ... we didn't decide until the last possible moment. I dreamed she was Amelia when I was about 3 months pregnant and kept calling her Katie after we had decided on another name.

I think if I'd had more time, she'd have been Katie, but her name is fab.

If she'd been a boy she'd have been Angus - we had decided that one.

grizzabellia · 23/12/2013 18:47

I like Eilidh best. The rest are ok apart from Jamie which is nowhefe near as nice as the others. Prefer Arianna to Arianne.

I love Elena most from your list, it's really pretty but strong at the same time. Other suggestions: Eloise or Alanna?

MyNameIsKenAdams · 23/12/2013 19:00

Aurelia
Alice
Erin

Tistheseasontobedramatic · 23/12/2013 19:13

How about Neena/Nina Smile

DitsyDonkey · 23/12/2013 19:14

Cara is lovely

FreeWee · 23/12/2013 19:16

I like Elena

inadreamworld · 23/12/2013 19:17

Elise or Arianne

I know a girl called Jamie and she always hated her 'boys' name

LittleNoona · 23/12/2013 19:17

Elise is my favourite out of all the names you listed.

I think it's lovely, feminine and not used enough!

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 23/12/2013 19:17

If you don't think any name from your list suits her go back to the book.

DH and I picked the name and gave it to DC1 before I had even seen him! I knew if I waited until I saw the child to start thinking about names I would never decide.
