How popular is Amber in Yorkshire?

I am due for c-section on Monday to deliver b/g twins and we are having difficulties deciding on a girls name. We both really like Amber but don't know how popular it is at the moment. According to ONS it was 60th most popular girls name in 2012. We want names that are known but not overly popular. Also in the running are Maria and Eloise.

For boys we have Felix or Jasper, to be decided when he arrives. We feel much happier with these and want something similar (quirky but not too out there or unheard of) for our DD too.

I did post a few months ago but am still undecided with only days to go!

I live in west yorks, am a teacher, attend lots of play groups etc and only know of one amber and one Eloise, only Maria I know is on Corrie! Love all those names, congrats.

BikeRunSki · 10/12/2013 19:41

I am in W Yorks. I only know 1 Amber, she is in N Yorks, she's 6.

ToffeeJungle · 10/12/2013 19:48

I only know of 1 Amber in South Yorks - she's 2.

I think I prefer Eloise though.

BikeRunSki · 10/12/2013 19:51

Oh yes, I prefer Eloise too. I know none.

claretandamberforever · 10/12/2013 20:04

They'll think you are a Bradford City fan! our colours are claret and Amber. lots of little lasses have Amber as their names round here Grin Grin

SweetieTime · 10/12/2013 20:06

My only concern with Eloise is people DH spelling it correctly. Also would Eloise be shortened to Ellie? I would prefer names that aren't shortened.

N Yorks here.
The Amber I know is 40, as is the Marie.
Eloise is 20.
I don't know any kids with any of the names on your list.

sausageandorangepickle · 10/12/2013 20:58

Amber is a lovely name, but aren't Amber and Jasper both gemstones? did you want that theme?

sausageandorangepickle · 10/12/2013 21:00

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amber
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasper

Sorry if this is a problem

SweetieTime · 10/12/2013 21:11

Felix is our first preference for boys name with Jasper as stand by. I was aware of the jem stone connection but it isn't an issue either way as I am not sure it is a widely known thing.

I love this name Smile

Theonlyoneiknow · 11/12/2013 16:59

In Scotland they issue a top ten names per region for each year. Not sure if they do the same for England? Could be useful for you

PerksOfBeingNorthern · 11/12/2013 17:50

South Yorks here.
Three Amber's in my Junior school.
1 Maria.
1 Eloise and an Ellouise.
All lovely names (and lovely children!) Grin
No Felix or Jaspers

Runlikeareindeer · 11/12/2013 18:08

I'm in Yorkshire and have an Amber. I dont know any others here.

notjustamummythankyou · 11/12/2013 18:13

I'm in North Yorkshire. I don't know any young girls (or indeed anyone! ) with the girls' names you mention. I know a felix and a jasper - both are 4 / 5 years old.

bettythebuilder · 11/12/2013 18:16

N Yorks here, I know of only one Amber. In E Yorks (Hull) there will be a few more amongst the Hull City fans Grin (colours are black and Amber) and as a Hull City fan it was on my list but dh vetoed.

SweetieTime · 11/12/2013 20:09

I never thought of the football teams links. We are closer to Bradford than Hull but not sure it would be a problem.

I am surprised there aren't more Ambers out there. It is a definite contender now along with Eloise as second choice

thanks to everyone for their comments.

Im in the leeds suburbs. I know 4 under 10.

Marcheline · 12/12/2013 20:10

I'd put Tabitha with Felix or Jasper, for some reason.

But I think Amber is v pretty and only know one. We're not in yorks though, sorry!

SweetieTime · 12/12/2013 20:40

I had Tabitha on my list but DH wouldn't entertain it.

Oh, that's a shame.

How about...

Natalia
Claudia
or, slightly more randomly, Holly?

bantamshire · 12/12/2013 21:20

Love the name Amber!

Bradford City thing.

Jinglebellsforthebetter · 12/12/2013 21:22

2 Ambers - one sweet little girl and one nightmare teen (I teach her and am actually quite fond of her even if she is a little beggar Grin)
