I really like the name / pronunciation Ever for a girl, but if I call her Eva she will be Ee-va won't she? Is Ever strong enough as a stand alone name? Does it look a bit ridiculous? Help!!!

Ever is not a name.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 09/12/2013 19:53

What Mrs DB said. The pronunciation 'Ever', whether you spell it Ever or Eva will get you a lot of Hmm looks.

bundaberg · 09/12/2013 19:53

yes, if you call her Eva then people will pronounce it Ee-va

just call her Ever!

ThisIsMeNow · 09/12/2013 19:54

Some people do pronounce Eva 'ever' but honestly, I would give then the Hmm face if they did.

BikeRunSki · 09/12/2013 19:55

This ^

I have heard Eva pronounced Ever before but only by a Latvian lady I know and as there is absolutely no Latvian blood in our family feel we might have to give this one a miss! Shame cause I think it sounds lovely :) (so does Milla Jovovich ... after a google...) ;)

Couldn't you use the name Heather then move to an area where they drop their aiches?

sandfrog · 09/12/2013 20:36

Evelina, with nickname Ever?

Mrsindecision · 09/12/2013 20:37

In Poland they pronounce Eva as "Ever" - it is a valid pronunciation.

ThisIsMeNow · 09/12/2013 20:41

It's valid in Poland. Op are you in Poland?

Clargo55 · 09/12/2013 20:42

What about Everly?
Jensen ackles sp?(supernatural actor) has named his daughter this.

I know some people are not keen on it, but it fits your brief and I like it Grin

Like Wombmates says, Milla Jovovich has a girl named Ever. I think its pretty, real name or not.

Dollydaydream99 · 09/12/2013 21:06

In Poland they spell "Ever" as "Ewa" if that helps?!

MooseyMouse · 09/12/2013 21:08

I really like Ever.

Wombmates · 09/12/2013 21:18

Nope the most I can get away with from an "exotic connotations" level is a tenuous link with France... Being from the Channel Isles :) thanks for the replies... I think it might be back to Romilly... :)

Bue · 11/12/2013 12:14

Romilly is GREAT, OP!

EmpressOfThe7WillowsandTaras · 11/12/2013 12:26

Romilly's lovely.

Wombmates · 11/12/2013 13:18

:) thanks, I'm concerned it might become too faddy or popular in the near future, but I love it so... definitely in the top three (which also include Madeleine and Thea... but that could be another post!

I come from a Polish family and Ewa is the correct spelling for the pronunciation ever. But you'll still get people saying it wrong I suspect. Grin

Ihatepeas · 11/12/2013 14:38

I know a Eva pronounced Ever. She is polish. Think you might struggle with people assuming it's pronounced Ee-ve

ouryve · 11/12/2013 14:41

It could be the most confusing name, eva, like!
