What are people's thoughts on this name for my son. He's 4 weeks old today and we still don't have a name! I'm concerned people might think it's a girl's name. Am I wrong? I don't want an ambiguous name. Thanks!

I know a Faren. Don't think anyone thinks its a girls name

Lisavarna · 06/12/2013 23:03

I love this name. Can it also be spelt Faron, like the Prefab Sprout song called Faron Young?

BOF · 06/12/2013 23:05

Ah, Faron's Flamingoes Grin

talkingnonsense · 06/12/2013 23:08

Heit

okthen · 06/12/2013 23:10

My son has a name that gets mistaken for a girl's name (it's deffo a boy's name, but unusual). Doesn't bother me as I adore the name. But if you don't love the name, something like that might irk you. Btw I like Faren and don't think it sounds like a girl name. You'll have to spell it out all the time, but again, that'll prob only bother you if you don't love the name,

hellowonderful · 06/12/2013 23:14

I really like Faren.

Bunbaker · 06/12/2013 23:17

I have never heard of it. How do you pronounce it? Fairen or Far-en

JuneauWhoIAm · 06/12/2013 23:19

I live near Farran woods so I'd think of trees.

BackforGood · 06/12/2013 23:22

Well, if I saw it / heard it, I'd have to ask as it's not apparent if it's a girl's or boy's name. If you pushed me in to guessing I'd probably have said girl's but it's not like using what is a traditionally girl's name for a boy as I doubt many people will have come across it anyway.
If 'what people think' concerns you, then I suggest you go for a more recognised name.

Breezy1985 · 06/12/2013 23:22

I clicked on this because I saw a ba in the local paper today of a baby girl named Faren. Have never heard of it before then it pops up twice in one day Smile

susiedaisy · 06/12/2013 23:25

I automatically thought it was a girls name. But I have never heard of it before so had nothing to gauge it by. I have to say I keep wanting to say heit after it. As in the temperature. Sorry!

BlessedAssurance · 07/12/2013 03:06

Faren is father in Norwegian. That's all I can think of. I bet it would be ok name but not to my taste.

My DD is Faron. :)

Squiffyagain · 07/12/2013 03:51

I thought it was a girl's name.

mumbaisapphirebluespruce · 07/12/2013 05:27

First thought was girls name.

Wannabestepfordwife · 07/12/2013 06:29

It's not my normal type of name but I love it!

SS3J · 07/12/2013 06:52

Yes, my first thought was girl's name, but I wouldn't have thought it was weird to then find out it was actually a boy!

Never heard it before but I like it.

WhiteHairReally · 07/12/2013 09:56

Like others. I'd never come across it before and linked it to Farrar (Fawcett Majors - 'Charlie's Angels' 70s version) and Fallon as in nice young woman in 'The Archers'.

Frontdoorstep · 07/12/2013 09:59

The only time I've ever heard it is Faron Young or as mentioned in the Prefab Sprout song. For this reason I would automatically think of it as a boys name.

Why not spell it Faron?

manicinsomniac · 07/12/2013 10:05

I thought it was a girl's name (but also thought it was spelt Faryn as I think I get mixed up between Fallon and Taryn for some reason).

It's quite unisex sounding though and I like it.

MissBeehiving · 07/12/2013 10:13

DS1 has a friend called Farren (boy). I quite like it Smile

superzero · 07/12/2013 10:22

Since you have not made your final decision I'll dare to say I'm not that keen.
I would assume it was a boy though and do know of one about 5.
I've got 3 boys and I sympathise with having to come with even 1 great name,I found it really hard & DS1 was still nameless at 4 weeks.
What else are you considering?
