Why would it matter if googling claudia brought people to this thread? Sorry if I am missing something here!

ViviPru · 05/12/2013 17:23

Yeh, I'm Confused too...

Anyway. Yes. Claudia. I love it, but I'm sure I've read on here it has some atrocious connotation and people will tell you they would avoid like the plague.....

BunnyLebowski · 05/12/2013 17:24

What's with the spaces? Confused Confused

Fwiw I actively dislike the name Claudia. It just sounds unpleasant to my ear and is far too mature and stuffy for a wee baby/girl.

HandragsNGladbags · 05/12/2013 17:24

I have a Claudia Joy, she's a beaut!

Yes it is from the Latin for lame. Apparently. And I have an Amelia, which is a medical condition. Apparently.

I think it's beautiful and classic and get a lot of positive comments.

SS3J · 05/12/2013 17:30

I personally am not keen on it, but that's just taste. It's a perfectly good name!

meditrina · 05/12/2013 17:42

I'm not keen in names which have more than one pronunciation in ordinary use, as I know I'd get tetchy with the endless need to explain which.

Bowlersarm · 05/12/2013 17:44

Yes, Claudia is a beautiful name.

JumpingJackSprat · 05/12/2013 17:47

Is beautiful I absolutely love it. Gorgeous. Do it :)

Anjou · 05/12/2013 20:21

I really like Claudia (possibly swayed by Claudia Winkelman, who is my fantasy best friend/drinking buddy). I especially like the pronunciation 'Cloud-ia' rather than 'Claw-dia'. Not sure where that pronunciation originates though.

TheRobberBride · 05/12/2013 20:25

I like it.

It's a pretty. I know a few little girls with the name.

Not sure why you felt the need to use spaces in your OP though.....?

peppinagiro · 06/12/2013 13:02

Anjou - Cloud-ia is the Italian pronunciation

Lebkuchenlover · 06/12/2013 13:06

I don't like Claudia, especially if pronounced Claw-dia as it sounds harsh and not very feminine to my ears.

It is derived from the latin word claudus = disabled/lame and so some people are put off because of this association.

MrsBungleScare · 06/12/2013 13:08

Yes, I think it is a pretty name. I like it.

sonnieboo · 06/12/2013 13:21

I prefer the German/Italian pronunciation (Clow-dia) to the English one (Claw-dia).

I'm afraid that the meaning would put me off slightly - I would hate my daughter to wonder why we chose a name meaning disabled/lame given how many names there are (with no or lovely meanings).

JollySparklyGiant · 06/12/2013 13:22

I'd pronounce it Claw Dee Ah and I don't like it.

HoneyandRum · 06/12/2013 13:23

Love it. I'm in Grrmany where it is pronounced Clou-dia which I prefer. Beautiful name either way.

RobinSparkles · 06/12/2013 13:28

Googling a first name won't bring you to a mumsnet thread Confused.

I have disclosed both of my DD's first and middle names on MN and if I google the names it doesn't bring me to MN!
