Can I have Edith and....

...Margot??

Its the only girls name DH and I both love but I'm really worried that when we introduce our DDs everyone will ask, "Where's Agnes then?'

We picked both names before Despicable Me came out....can we have them together or will we just get laughed at??

For the most part Margot (due Dec) would probably be known as Maggie but I'm still a bit worried - part of me thinks I shouldn't care what people may say but I don't want them teased - or DH to be nicknamed Gru!

Gah! Help!

I've never seen the film so I wouldn't notice, I think Margot is lovely Smile

I wanted Maggie so badly for my DD but promised my partner he could pick the name for a girl Hmm

DinkyMole · 25/11/2013 11:30

I love Despicable Me but wouldn't have made the link if you hadn't pointed it out Smile

TooTryHard · 25/11/2013 11:32

Haha.

Yes, you can use it.

Bowlersarm · 25/11/2013 11:33

No connection here as haven't seen it. Is is very well known?

ItsNotATicklingCompetition · 25/11/2013 11:36

Ooh looking hopeful then! Was fully expecting everyone to say I shouldn't do such an awful thing to my girlies! Smile

Just hope everyone in RL doesn't notice/mention it!

What should I say if anyone does??

I have no idea what you're talking about! Great names, don't let a transient film/TV show (if that is what it is) put you off.

CordeliaRose · 25/11/2013 11:57

Just laugh and say 'that's a coincidence!'
I've not seen the film either, so wouldn't make the connection.
If you both love the name, go for it! Thanks

maishoffwcingras · 25/11/2013 12:49

DCs are massive fans & the DVD has been played so many times here but I would never have made that connection. Both lovely names

ToffeeJungle · 25/11/2013 13:36

Love the film though wouldn't have made the connection.
Great names!

HoneyandRum · 25/11/2013 14:31

Well my kids would consider it extremely cool I think, rather than tease them! Although they may ask where their dad's "cousins" are (The Minions).

HyvaPaiva · 25/11/2013 14:34

I don't know the film but I love the names. Please don't be swayed because of the film characters!

Lutrine · 25/11/2013 15:09

I've never seen the film so would never make a connection. Gorgeous names!

ItsNotATicklingCompetition · 25/11/2013 17:13

Aah thanks everyone! Thanks

You have convinced me....and before anyone asks, there definitely won't be a third to be called Agnes Smile x

If you like Maggie then how about Margaret or Margeurite as full name?

EdithWeston · 25/11/2013 23:04

I've seen the films (and of ourselves noticed the Edith!) and although they're good ones, and will probably be around on DVD for ages, I don't think they'll creep far enough into general consciousness to be an issue.

And they are lovely names.

I thought You were going to say like Piaf or Rosewelt with Edith.

Margot and Edith are fine together IMO

I have seen Despicable me several times but I didn't make the connection.

clary · 26/11/2013 22:34

I love the name Agnes

I like Edith too Grin quite a lot really.

OP I think it is totally fine and rather sweet. Don't nn her Maggie tho.

mathanxiety · 27/11/2013 03:57

I love Agnes too...

I also love Despicable Me but maybe I'm thick, because I didn't see what you were worrying about.
