Which do you prefer and which is most popular/common? X

Prefer Lois. Nell doesn't feel like a complete name to me.

lchats · 25/11/2013 02:26

Sorry should say she would be a Helena but we would call her nell

Nell (hands down), really not keen on the name Lois

OutragedFromLeeds · 25/11/2013 02:56

Nell is lovely.

Lois is awful (we have one in the family and I really thought I'd get used to it, but she's 7 now and it's still bloody awful!).

sleepingbeautiful · 25/11/2013 04:11

Nell, it just sounds historically glamorous. Lois sounds like a frump.

lchats · 25/11/2013 05:20

I love how honest people are in the wee hours - brilliant!Grin

i have a Lois sitting right next to me here, and she is very nice, so I should say Lois

but Helena/Nell is gorgeous!

Layl77 · 25/11/2013 05:25

I like lois

Jenijena · 25/11/2013 05:38

I really don't like Nell, too harsh sounding/short to my ears, so would go for Lois... But it's all personal!

Yika · 25/11/2013 06:02

I prefer Lois. I love Helena but why call her such a beautiful name if it's going to be shortened?

Bowlersarm · 25/11/2013 06:22

I love Nell especially short for Helena.

I dislike Lois.

SootikinAndSweep · 25/11/2013 08:10

I love both, but I'm not keen on a nn having a different initial to the BC name.

wigglesrock · 25/11/2013 09:11

I love Helena, but I prefer it said a certain way. I can't warm to Nell, I dont know why, it's completely irrational on my part.

I never thought I liked Lois but I know a 15 year old one & it's lovely on her.

mejon · 25/11/2013 10:42

I love Nell (I had a very lovely Aunty Nell) and Helena is very classy. I don't like Lois pronounced Lowis but do like the Welsh pronunciation which is Loyss (like soy as in sauce).

mathanxiety · 26/11/2013 02:44

Nell makes me think of knell.

I love Helena though, and there are nns that are nicer than Nell for it.

If I had to choose between Nell and Lois I would choose Lois, but if Helena was in the mix I would choose Helena hands down, with Lena as a nn. I had two Helenas in my class in school, one pronounced Helen-a and one Heleena, and both are lovely imo.

CretaKano · 26/11/2013 05:07

Nell! I love it. So cute

squoosh · 26/11/2013 12:11

Nell.

Lois is a bit small town American circa 1971.

MrsT2007 · 26/11/2013 13:55

I have a Lois. Clearly I love it; feminine but not girly, strong name.

Nell was on our list too but as a derivative of Eleanor

Arcadian · 26/11/2013 16:16

Lois is gorgeous, elegant, edgy and all vintage 50s sounding.

Nell is awful, and I just hear the elephant song.

squoosh · 26/11/2013 16:20

Lois, edgy and elegant? Goodness.

ViviPru · 26/11/2013 16:35

love them both

mewmeow · 26/11/2013 16:47

love lois.
Nell not so much.

Weegiemum · 26/11/2013 16:50

Neither, but I'd go for Helena at a push.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 26/11/2013 16:51

Nell is my favourite. Helena, Eleanor or Penelope, but Nell. Not Lois.

Arcadian · 26/11/2013 16:54

Yes squoosh... Every Lois I've ever know has been a fashion journalist... (4 btw) and they were all certainly those things.

I love the name. The Superman connection is very cool.
