I Love Ivy and Flora, but I'm worried about increasing popularity, especially with Ivy...
Juniper and Clementine are,I agree a little frilly in comparison with the other two,but I do love them and they'll end up being Clem and Juni I expect...perhaps they should be middles instead though.
Orietta has now been vetoed by DP.
Dulcie may win by default....

Curlew, I have a Raph (Raphael). It is a GREAT name. Grin

Zephyr and Caspar are my favourites, followed closely by Ruis (I love the connection/meaning and I LOVE the NN Ru.)
Asa is awesome but seeing as I can avoid using another A initial,I probably should.
Otis is also V cool.

how am I ever going to decide?!

I'm not the sort of person who can decide once the baby's here. I find babies never 'look' like any name fits in particular, because they're such a blank canvas,so perfectly new,no name will fit until they grow into it....

Ha! I was going to say that I'd perhaps look at not which is the best name but which you could rule out. My suggestion was going to be strike Ivy and Flora first due to popularity. I always think of you as somebody who likes names that are a bit different and less commonly used and wouldn't have expected to see Ivy or Flora on your list but can see why they are. Juni is really pretty. I was going to call ds Josephine if he was a girl but he would have been a Sephie or a Phin day to day. Obviously his penis got in the way of these plans... Anyway, my point is, while frilly they're also beautiful and Clem and Juni are great nicknames.

It's too hard. This is why I'm having no more.

Flora and Zephyr

SootikinAndSweep · 22/11/2013 10:30

Right, narrowing it down to one of each sex.

Clementine
Zephyr

With Juniper and Asa as back ups (although not sure about Asa and Arlo together).

Orietta sounds like it should be printed on the side of a toilet roll dispenser, it sounds kind of pharmaceutical.

I think that's why it IS so hard, this is the Last Baby.

I think your plan is a goodun though...strike outs rather than which is best...
It sucks that Ivy and Flora are so popular, but they are and there's no getting away from it.
I should just suck it up and accept it,and accept that that does bother me enough to rule them out Sad

Oh and I agree about them not looking like a name. Both mine came out, I asked their names, just as you would with any other human and they had fuck all idea either. They looked blankly at me and then pooed and/or cried. My Mum soothed in hushed tones "what name does he look like?" He looks like a King Edward mother. As in, the potato. His presence on earth hasn't helped the matter a jot. This is why I let the 4yo name him after her favourite ninja turtle.

I've found over the years too that the old adage of 'loved is the child of many names' is very true. Mine have all sorts of nicknames and are rarely called their given name. Raphael calls himself Rapha, his Dad calls him Raph and I call him Roo (shortened from Rapharoo, to rhyme with kangaroo, look I was bloody tired for the first 8 months okay?). He is also called a thousand other embarrassing names including and not limited to Bubbles, Plonkydonk and Squigsy. In the end it didn't really matter which name I chose and in another 30 years I'll be running through a list of all male relatives before I get to his name anyway. My name in recent years, according to my mother is "Sue, Pat, Marg, Helen, bugger, which one are you?" I'll give you a clue, it's none of the above.

That must be the most unconventional list Ive read ever!

I wish Clementine was Celestine or Dulcie was Delphie and then Id pick one of those. (useless, sorry)

From your list, and based on your childrens names and your surname I pick Flora and Otis.

Really cool names acutally.

elskovs · 22/11/2013 10:39

Oh you crossed off Otis... Then I pick Caspar.

Aww you ruled out Ivy! I love Ivy! Out of your remaining girl names I'd choose Flora I think. Best boy name is Zephyr, love it Smile

I love Ivy too,but I don't love that its usage has doubled in the last year...

Juniper and Zephyr.

And here endeth the dilemma.

Report
ShowOfBloodyStumps · 22/11/2013 10:44

It's not the most unconventional list I've every seen. I know a sibset called Merlin, Elfjin and Phinnibus...

I agree with your deletions completely and would be bold and strike Dulcie too. It's too cutesy. I hear it as a Darcy/Tilly/Milly type name and they're everywhere atm. There are other much prettier D names like Delphine/Delphie, Dora (maybe Dorothea actually) but actually ignore me, no more adding names.

Are you picking first and middle names from these lists because in that case you only need to narrow it down to two until next week and your next thread on this and possibly three if you have two middle names.

Report
squoosh · 22/11/2013 10:46

Dulcie just reminds me of dulce de leche which y'know I'm fond of but is a bit too sweet for daily consumption.

Report
elskovs · 22/11/2013 10:46

God I had no idea Flora and Ivy were popular.

Mind you Skye is quite common isn't it? Do you mind common?

Iris?

Report
UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 22/11/2013 10:47

The middle names could come from this list or the other insanely long list of middle names is have stashed away

I was just coming back to strike out Dulcie,as DP is Not Keen..

So,bye bye Dulcie Sad

I've never been happy with Skye's name,it's her name now,but if I could go back and change it,I would.

And yes,common/popular does bother me,possibly silly, but it just does.
