I love my DD2's name. However, I can tell that hardly anyone else does as when I'm asked her name it is NEVER commented on eg. 'what's she called?' 'BabyJimmy' 'Isn't it sunny today?'

I am not being paranoid, apart from 2 people with obvious good taste who raved about it, you would think I had called her Ash-treigh or LoobyLoo or something along those lines.

I don't mind, I think it's a gorgeous name. I was just a bit taken aback by the lack of enthusiasm from others especially when I lie find something nice to say about everyone's name choice.

Anyhoo, to my utter delight I read a thread today where a poster couldn't choose between my DD2's name and another. Almost everyone chose DD2's name and said such lovely things about it that I feel redeemed. I knew I had good taste Grin

Yay! And yes, it is a lovely name, I don't know why you don't get more compliments.

Frikadellen · 21/11/2013 19:36

Was our girls name for DS I love it

curiousgeorgie · 21/11/2013 19:42

I have this! My DD's name has a very negative reaction in life but online it's quite well received!

I don't care anymore because I love it so much and it suits her down to the ground.

MrsNormanBates · 21/11/2013 19:58

How is Iona pronounced?

miffybun73 · 21/11/2013 20:04

I love love love Iona.

DevonFolk · 21/11/2013 20:06

What on earth is wrong with Iona? It's gorgeous!

MrsNB it I-owe-na

Anjou · 21/11/2013 20:07

Iona is a lovely name (and place!). You DO have good taste. Not sure why people wouldn't comment - its very pretty. The only time it's not an ideal name is when your surname is something like Carr or Butler. Grin

Bowlersarm · 21/11/2013 20:09

Iona is lovely. Gorgeous for a little girl, sophisticated for a grown up.

Best if her surname isn't Carr, House, etc, though.

Bowlersarm · 21/11/2013 20:10

Oops x post with Anjou.

JimmyCorkhill · 21/11/2013 23:06

You all have exquisite taste Grin. Our surname is not a noun just stupidly long.

I have a friend with a DD Iona. I think its a lovely name too.

JohnSnowsTie · 22/11/2013 13:34

I'm surprised you don't get more compliments... apart from anything else it's unusual without sounding outrageous.

BaileysOnRocks · 22/11/2013 13:42

Lona is a beautiful name!! I have a Lola which is soo popular now!! Confused But I still love it!
Also have a Matilda.
As long as you love the names other peoples opinions don't matter. If Matilda was a boy she was going to be Jesse and it was always met with negatives!

Fifibluebell · 22/11/2013 14:40

Errrrrrm what's wrong with Iona???? People obviously have no taste at all! Wink

JimmyCorkhill · 22/11/2013 14:59

I agree with you all Grin. I have just been amazed with the lukewarm response in rl. Still, your responses have made me very happy, thank you!
