Tobias
Callum
Isaiah
Simeon

Brodie
Mason
Flynn
Arthur

Finnian
Hunter
Connor
Kieran

Kai
Corey
Caleb
Zachariah

Bryant
Griffin
Quinn
Elliott

What names do you like (I split them into groups of 4 purely so they didn't look like a lump of text, no reason for the groupings!) or dislike? Why? Would you ever name a child any of them, or is it a case of best of a bad lot? Be honest!

Love Tobias, Quinn and Elliot.

sonlypuppyfat · 19/11/2013 22:48

They are a nice bunch of names except for arthur horrid sorry

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 19/11/2013 22:49

I like Flynn, Elliot and Griffin
I dislike the biblical names, Kai and Quinn

Cutteduppumpkin · 19/11/2013 22:56

American / Biblical, I don't like any of them except Arthur and possibly Tobias (Tobey)

Cutteduppumpkin · 19/11/2013 22:57

and I don't really like them (but I am old)

Hollyjokes · 19/11/2013 23:14

Tobias, Arthur and Caleb are my favourites.

MummyBeerest · 19/11/2013 23:18

I love Callum, Caleb, Connor, Elliott and Flynn. They're all cool sounding and age well.

The rest are just meh to me.

Though I really don't like Corey. I don't know why.

AlwaysInBed · 19/11/2013 23:32

Thanks for the ideas and perspectives, everyone's views are useful! Thanks

We aren't American or religious in any way, Isaiah , Zacharias, Simeon and Tobias are all names from my partner's ex foster family, and he'd like to name his first DC (not my first DC) after them.

I'm not a fan of Corey tbh, but DP loves it. Quinn seems a bit divided. I can get not liking a lot of the names btw, I think some of them can be a bit love/hate!

Elliot and Griffin.

The rest sound like the cast of an American teen-angst drama to me (but I'm very boring old school).

Harrin · 20/11/2013 00:32

I have brothers called Connor and Callum and the second option both times was Keiran apparantly Grin

I think Corey is more of a girls name although I know of more boys with this name

The last group of names all seem surnamey to me

Love Caleb and Tobias but all are quite nice apart from Griffin imo

Chottie · 20/11/2013 05:21

There are a lot of little Coreys growing up in south London at the moment.

Sorry, I'm not keen on American or religious names either.

intothenever · 20/11/2013 05:30

Caleb's nice...

RevengeWiggle · 20/11/2013 06:46

I like Elliott the most out of that list, I wouldn't go for Kai because it seems to be becoming quite popular where I am.

RevengeWiggle · 20/11/2013 06:47

Tobias is also nice, shortened to Toby.

sandfrog · 20/11/2013 09:03

I like these:

Tobias
Isaiah
Mason
Zachariah
Elliott

cielschwards · 20/11/2013 10:11

I like Flynn and Caleb

SteeleyeStan · 20/11/2013 12:37

I like Simeon, Arthur or Elliott best out of these.

Really don't like Brodie, Hunter, Kai or Corey.

Spaghettinetti · 20/11/2013 13:58

I like Elliot, Quinn, Flynn, Hunter and Griffin from your list.

squoosh · 20/11/2013 14:03

Tobias - quite like
Callum - overdone
Isaiah - I'd think you were very religious
Simeon - I'd think you were very religious

Brodie - Australian soap character type name
Mason - American soap character type name
Flynn - surname
Arthur - I like

Finnian - Nice Irish name if a tad leprechauny
Hunter - Gladiator
Connor - Should be spelt Conor, has been used to death
Kieran - this spelling looks very 80s. I spell it Ciaran

Kai - Rooney
Corey - ill fated 1980s child stars Feldman and Haim
Caleb - this is nice
Zachariah - I'd think you were very religious

Bryant - Bryant Park/Bryant Homes
Griffin - Peter Griffin from Family Guy
Quinn - surname
Elliott - reminds me of that funny scene from The Sure Thing. 'You are not calling the kid Elliott!'. I like it though

LimeLeaafLizard · 20/11/2013 14:11

squoosh speaks sense!

TopHatAndTails · 20/11/2013 14:15

I like Arthur, Caleb, Tobias and Elliot. Not keen on most of the others, sorry.

DiamondsAndRust · 20/11/2013 14:16

I like Tobias, Flynn, Arthur (although it's getting mega-trendy now) and Griffin. Elliott and Caleb are OK.

Strongly dislike Callum (incredibly overdone), Connor (ditto), Mason (too American), Corey ('80s soap star) and Kai (Rooney). Not a fan of overly American-sounding names in general tbh.

AlwaysInBed · 20/11/2013 17:16

And we are moving to Australia if it matters. I like Conor (as in, that spelling) but we knew someone (who died) spelt with two ns (don't know why) and have met two little boys with the spelling Connor, so thiught it could be usable.

Arthur, Tobias, Caleb, Elliott seems okay so far. We do quite like the American sounding names, although I didn't really recognise it. I think we will be avoiding the overly religious ones- we're agnostic after all and it definitely contrasts too much with the other DC's names too.

I'm avoiding Kai for Rooney! Thanks squoosh I didn't see many of the associations iyswim- I know those names/characters/people and relate them to the name, until I'm actually naming a baby and I forget all about them.

Thanks to everyone for their perspectives.
