Baby names - no I don't want suggestions thanks, just suggestions for where to look!

Have the two baby name books I used with ds, plus one I got for this baby (one for ds was skinny and yellow, the other was free with a pg magazine, this one is like 45000 baby names.... but looks a bit old) however dh and I are really uninspired by them.

They don't seem to have names in them that we'd take as a 'given' .... more modern ones such as theo, donna, mischa, amberley, serena (or seren) or anything like that. Much less more modern and odd ones.

However the only modern one I've seen is that 'cool names' one where they're mostly just weird. Any other ideas?

We looked back through our family trees to find names as this seemed like a good way of narrowing things down. DH's goes back to the 16th century so we had quite a choice!

We were uninspired by most of the books for ds1, and Im now pregnant again. Last time we did get some inspiration by looking through a jazz encyclopedia - they all have really cool names. We also looked through flower books (didn't know the sex then). I think baby name books are a bit of a waste of time. It's hard to think clearly about any name if you see it surrounded by 20 others. I guess the best inspiration comes in the most unlikely places and you are more likely to hear "the name" on the radio or in a cafe... I'm hoping too!

is a fab representation of frequency of use. Is really interesting to put your parents names in. My mum's name Pam was totally typical of 1955.

look at the credits on films / tv programmes. not only do you get the actors names but also the character names, so lots to choose from.

we also used to take walks through graveyards to look at the names!
