Do these go? As sisters names? Is Maya a name I've just made up because I want May but DH says no?

I like them together Smile

CountingStars · 06/11/2013 18:10

Maya is a real name.
I like them together

surroundedbyblondes · 06/11/2013 18:15

We have Ella and Maja (swedish spelling, we live in Sweden) Two beautiful girls, their names fit them perfectly Grin

jkklpu · 06/11/2013 18:18

They do but just be warned that they're really popular so there could be quite a few around.

Boggler · 06/11/2013 18:23

I prefer Maya and rather it spelt the Celtic way Mair Grin

EirikurNoromaour · 06/11/2013 18:39

Both are very nice names but very common. They will have lots of Ellas and Mayas in their class.

MrsRV · 06/11/2013 20:01

We already have the Ella half :-)Grin not heard of Maya at all!!!

How are you intending to pronounce Maya? It would normally be My-a?

MrsRV · 06/11/2013 20:31

May-a. As in month of May... I thought Mya would simply be Mya - oh man. Confusing!!!

OP posts:
EirikurNoromaour · 06/11/2013 21:26

Maya is pronounced mye-a not may-a

smithwillsam · 07/11/2013 06:30

Both names are very nice. By the names meaning both are good. But Ella than better Maya. Maya is a old fashionable name and has used as a female as well. Ella is a cute girl name and sound together well.

JuneauWhoIAm · 07/11/2013 06:40

Maya is pronounced Mya.

CPtart · 07/11/2013 06:48

Yes they're proper names. I know several of each!

elcranko · 07/11/2013 10:46

I read it as May-a.

It sounds lovely with Ella IMO.

VivaLeBeaver · 07/11/2013 11:04

I read it as May-a. To be honest I think twin names which have similar ending is a bit twee. How about Masie?

JassyRadlett · 07/11/2013 11:20

I've only ever heard it pronounced Mye-uh, as in the Mayan civilisation.

Rosencrantz · 07/11/2013 17:04

Maya is mye-a. Like the Mayans. The ones who made the calendars.

qumquat · 08/11/2013 16:07

I teach a lot of Mayas (secondary, there's a rash of them in current yr7 and 8), a few years ago they were all pronounced My-a, but now there are quite a lot of May-as as well. I have to say I think May-a sounds wrong, but it is certainly not unusual and will be accepted as a proper name.

Maya is vety beautiful
