Struggling to find the perfect name!

Like a lot of people on Mumsnet I want a proper names that's outside the top 100 but often there is a reason for them not being popular or they are shooting up the chart!

Darkgreener has a lot to answer for, it's made me soooo much more fussy!

Amos and Jethro are due a revival, I reckon. They are still reasonably considered in certain circles (the ones that were using Hector, Jasper, Casper about ten years ago).

Mama1980 · 06/11/2013 13:55

I love jasper. Smile
I know a lot of caspers.
I don't like hector, because of the trojan hector meeting a unpleasant end just makes me think of that.
My ds1 has a very unusual name literally there are only 35 called this in the past 6 years. I love it and it suits him but my ds2 is called Alexander which is pretty popular but again it suits him I would try not to worry too much about popularity.

Why can't we tell the op the meaning of 'to hector'? It might help her decide what to name her baby, an important decision imo. Isn't that the whole point of these boards?

And just becuause it is an old word doesn't make it any less relevant today. If you google 'hector' under news items, you may be surprised how often it is used today.

Amos or Caspar.

Bakingtins · 06/11/2013 15:37

I know one Jasper, one Casper, one Hector (all children

funnyflowersky · 06/11/2013 15:59

Fraser is the best. Not keen on Hector and Casper/Jasper are just so drippy.

squoosh · 06/11/2013 16:10

I like Hector best, I know a very cool 20-something of this name.

Jasper is a comedy posh name to me. Caper is a weedy name and Fraser is a bit ubiquitous here in Scotland so pretty boring to me.

I quite like Jethro and Amos.

I have a Fraser who is 5 and met his first other Fraser a couple of weeks ago. I think he thought that he was the only one in the world as he was genuinely shocked Grin
We are in England more common in Scotland hth x

MackerelOfFact · 06/11/2013 16:27

Love Casper. Quite like Hector. Don't like the other two much.

What about Wilbur? I love this.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/11/2013 19:21

Love Hector.

Rhubarbgarden · 06/11/2013 19:42

Casper, Jasper and Hector are all very 'now'.

There was a rash of Jethros a few years ago.

comewinewithmoi · 06/11/2013 19:47

I know a jasper, a hector and Fraser x2. The family in 15 kids... Have a Casper. Live Casper, like hector not keen on the others.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 06/11/2013 19:54

I know 3 Jaspers, all quite posh or 'alternative' (as in brother called Rafferty) no Caspers, seems very biblical, 4 Frasers, (love it) and only one Hector, which I'm old enough to associate with Hector's House. ('I'm a silly old Hector') Grin

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 06/11/2013 19:56

Hector's House
