Greylynn?

What do you think of the name Greylynn (pronounced grey-LYNN)for a girl? I've seen this name once or twice before and loved it. We will probably call her Grey for short. Also what middle names do you like for Greylynn?

Dreadful. Sounds very American sounding, wouldn't be surprised to come across one on Toddlers and Tiaras.

NadiaWadia · 04/11/2013 02:55

Grey (ie old) Lynn? Why would you inflict this? There are plenty of other girls names ending in Lynn that are actually nice.

NadiaWadia · 04/11/2013 02:57

I am not trying to be mean, just saying that your daughter would probably hate to be called that, and asking you to think again!

Sleepthief · 04/11/2013 02:58

Not Grayling? (A type of bird or fish, I think?). Still a no from me, though. Sorry Smile

loren986 · 04/11/2013 03:00

Rats! I was so sure about it! I mainly liked the Grey part, not the Lynn part. Definitely will have to think of something else! The only backup we had is Sailor. How about that? Her middle name would be Rose.

Sorry - Sailor is equally terrible. Sailor Rose sounds like the nautical equivalent of Postman Pat or Fireman Sam

I'm sorry if that sounds horribly rude but I just wanted to be honest.

kiwik · 04/11/2013 03:20

It's the name of the suburb I live in. Awful as a name for a child.
Sailor Rose is equally bad, if not worse. Not a good name for a little girl at all.

loren986 · 04/11/2013 03:20

Wow we are terrible at baby names apparently. Okay, we had one last option on the short list, I'm sure you will all not like this much either! We thought of Imogen or Imogene but decided to abandon them in favor of Greylynn, which I suppose won't work so we may have to go with one of those. Thank you for the honest opinions and keep them coming please!

saggybaps · 04/11/2013 03:29

Good grief, sorry if you had your heart set on them, but both spectacularly bad. Much prefer Imogen.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 04/11/2013 03:37

Imogene is not a name - so that would be calling the baby a name made by you and t looks like a spelling mistake

Imogen is lovely though

loren986 · 04/11/2013 03:41

Actually, I knew an Imogene growing up! I agree it is very unconventional though. My friend says we should just call her Emma Jean instead but I don't like the looks of that written out. Anyway, it's definitely looking like Imogen at this point. Now we just need a middle name!

OP posts:
Gobbolinothewitchscat · 04/11/2013 03:51

Imo-jean Imogene is horrible. Sorry. Imogen is v nice. Imogen Rose goes very well together

However, am I really do mean this, if you honestly prefer Sailor or Greylynne, then you should pick one of them

NadiaWadia · 04/11/2013 04:55

Actually I think I have heard of Imogene. Do you pronounce it the same as Imogen? Anyway, Imogen(e) is lovely. Why not go for that?

BobaFetaCheese · 04/11/2013 05:23

If you replace the first y with an m, you have gremlynn. Awful potential for bullying/piss taking.
Gwendoline? Similar sounding name and Gwen is nice? Although I've never met a Gweynneth/Gwendoline who liked their name (think I spelt them both wrong too)!

If you're set on Rose is there a reason you can't use it as a first name?

Stat · 04/11/2013 05:58

How about Gracelyn as an alternative?

EirikurNoromaour · 04/11/2013 06:15

Imogen is perfectly nice. Don't put an E on the end.
Greylynn is absurd. Sailor - don't even know what to say to that. Come on.

Oriunda · 04/11/2013 06:37

Grayling is a name, think one of the teachers/headmistress from an Enid Blyton book? Could use as a mn?

Bunbaker · 04/11/2013 06:47

Greylynn. Are you serious? Pinklynn, greenlynn, bluelynn (actually that sounds like a taxi service.

Just no.

I love the name Imogen. I have a cousin with that name. Don't bother with an extra e on the end or it sounds a bit like a John Michel Jarre song.

Weeantwee · 04/11/2013 06:51

To be honest, and it may just be because I'm sleepy, but I quite like the sound of Greylynn but not the spelling. Definitely not Sailor, unless you came up with an alternative spelling such as Sayla or Saila.

loren986 · 04/11/2013 06:57

I understand why people don't like Greylynn, it's essentially a made up name. But I don't understand the grief I'm getting over Sailor! It's actually a fairly popular name in America. My parents are divorced and my father lives in London and my mother in America, so I'm connected to both cultures which is why I chose Sailor. It's definitely not unheard of! Of course I appreciate the opinions, that's why I asked! The alternatives for Greylynn are all lovely, but I chose that because I liked the sound of Grey. Thanks for the help everyone!

Grey Lynn is the name of a suburb as kiwik said. (Waves to kiwik- I work there!)

What about just Grey?

loren986 · 04/11/2013 07:14

I wasn't aware of the suburb so thank you both! I do quite like Grey actually. I like that it's not an obviously feminine name as well - not too frilly. After switching from Greylynn Elizabeth Talbert to Imogen Rose Talbert we may be back at Grey Elizabeth Talbert. Don't know why I didn't think of that! Thanks!

Both Greylynn and Sailor are awful. There are so many strong and beautiful names out there.

SoupDragon · 04/11/2013 07:18

Sorry, but Grey is equally awful IMO. Dull and dreary.

noblegiraffe · 04/11/2013 07:20

Grey is a dreary colour, and not a nice sound either. Imogen is lovely and an actual name.
