What do you think of the name Greylynn (pronounced grey-LYNN)for a girl? I've seen this name once or twice before and loved it. We will probably call her Grey for short. Also what middle names do you like for Greylynn?

I know a guy named Gray. He also has an unfortunate phallic sounding surname beginning with a D....

It does not go well together and sounds like a hospital appointment in the making. .... Shock

I think RandomCitizen has hit the nail on the head regarding how descriptive the name Grey sounds. A bit like Gandalf the Grey for instance.
Grey plus surname makes the person sounds dull and uninteresting. Plus the weather is so often dull and grey in this country.

Elizabeth Grey nee Talbot was the Countess of Kent, so if you are a history geek (and Talbot is a bit like Talbert) then its good to go.

You could call her Countess as a nn

It sounds like one of those "Dunroamin" house names where people mix their first names to name their retirement bungalows. Graham & Lynn - GreyLynn!

SicknSpan · 04/11/2013 13:44

I think Gray is a really very pretty name. Go with your heart not other people'! heads!

CheerfulYank · 04/11/2013 15:39

Sailor isn't overly popular in the US. I've heard of it (Christie Brinkley has one I believe) but I don't know any. Sawyer far more popular.

Occupation-y names that sound like or are surnames were popular a few years back: Cooper, Tanner, etc.

StyleManual · 04/11/2013 18:25

I think you're getting a ridiculously hard time over this. I think Grey is a very pretty name and doesn't sound dull at all. I think it's classy.

stenhousemuir · 04/11/2013 18:45

Go for Grey if you want! I think it sounds classy as well. I'm biased towards Imogen though as it's my eldest's name. She's 23 and it was a very rare name then (she was called after a relative who once asked her mum, 'Is there anyone else in the world called Imogen?'). I know a few people who definitely copied me...so maybe I popularised it! She has had an amazing number of mis-spellings: Imagina, Amy Jean, Imagon (use new Imagon and those embarrassing stains will be a thing of the past!) and best of all, Imagine. She once ordered a taxi, giving the name Imogen, and shortly afterwards got a text 'Imagine your taxi is here.' Well, she did try to imagine it but she actually needed a real taxi...

Kiwiinkits · 04/11/2013 20:44

Go for Grey as a middle name and call her Grey as her nickname?
I think Elizabeth Grey Talbert is lovely, classy.

clubnail · 04/11/2013 21:04

I know a Gray (boy, one year old) and a toddler boy called Greyson/Grayson. I didn't bat an eyelid at either. I love Sailor. Go with what you love. There are lots of Imogens and Graces, I'd prefer something less common.

Artandco · 04/11/2013 21:13

Spelt Sayla I actually like it

Sayla Elizabeth Grey ?

NigellasGuest · 04/11/2013 21:20

Gray sounds a little drab. I prefer Purple - or Puce

weaselinthenight · 04/11/2013 21:32

Greyla? ;-)

loren986 · 04/11/2013 21:37

Thank you so much everyone! I am torn between Grey Elizabeth and Imogen Pearl. stenhousemuir, that is too funny!

Met a lady many years ago whose daughter was called Grayling. It was a family name apparently. My grown up DD is Grace Elizabeth which is of no import except the sounds are similar, but I'm putting in a late bid for Grayling as I've offered more evidence of it being used as an English first name. Good luck OP!

clubnail · 04/11/2013 22:01

What about Greer?

clubnail · 04/11/2013 22:04

Greyce.

WeAreSix · 04/11/2013 22:19

I like Grey.

But Imogen Pearl gets my vote :)

Rhubarbgarden · 04/11/2013 22:24

I was going to suggest Greer too. I think it's a beautiful name. I do quite like Grey though.
