We both love it but should it be for boys only ?

I think it's fine. Kitty is a girls name after all and a diminutive of Catherine.

Would it appeal as a nickname? That way if your DD decides it is a boys name and doesn't like it she has choice?

CountingStars · 03/11/2013 15:45

I think it'd be nice, but possibly better if you can find a lengthened name that would work, but then always call her Kit (to avoid the likely assumption that she's male, which would probably get tiring).

squoosh · 03/11/2013 15:46

I really like it.

AuntieStella · 03/11/2013 15:54

I'd definitely expect a Kit to be a boy.

Kitty is lovely for a girl, but I'd have it as a nn for Catherine.

HorryIsUpduffed · 03/11/2013 16:07

We've just binned Christopher/Kit because we thought people would Hmm (esp the DC who like Kit and Kaboodle on Kerwhizz, where Kit is a girl).

If DC3 does turn out to be a girl - bearing in mind the sonographer was so sure about the penis he said he'd resign if it turned out to be a shadow - she'll be Catherine/Kitty.

My dd is often kit for Katherine. I wouldn't do it as the whole name for boy or girl though.

sleepingbeautiful · 03/11/2013 17:08

I'd assume boy. I agree with suggestions using it as a nn for Katherine, Carina, Catriona, Kathleen etc then if DD isn't a tom boy type she has an option...

PestoPyrotechnissimos · 03/11/2013 17:13

I like it but think it's a boy's name, sorry!

Thurlow · 03/11/2013 17:27

I like it. I'd definitely go for some version of Catherine on the birth certificate, but Kit and Kitty are both nice.

Svrider · 03/11/2013 17:43

I think it's great
Go for it

pinkandsparklytoo · 03/11/2013 20:21

One of my female friends at high school was a Kit, not short for anything. It's a great name.

Lubiloo · 03/11/2013 23:00

I think Kit (nickname Kitty) is very feminine.

I think its a gorgeous name but I would think it was a NN TBH.

pinkpip100 · 03/11/2013 23:32

My dd2 is Kirsten nn Kitty, DH has an aunt also called Kirsten but we have always known her as Kit. Lovely name IMO!

OnesieTwosie · 04/11/2013 04:30

I'm not keen on Kit but love Kitty. I expect a Kit would often get Kitty anyway. Kit seems a bit unfinished and peculiar for a girl.

singarainbow · 04/11/2013 04:40

I like it, a fantastic female character in the L word was called that - she was so cool!

FanjolinaJolie · 04/11/2013 05:37

I love Kitty as nn for Katherine or Kathleen

Kit to me is only for a boy

loren986 · 04/11/2013 07:03

In America, if you told someone that your son was named Kit, they'd think you were a little crazy! Kit definitely could go for either a girl or a boy.

loren986 · 04/11/2013 07:04

Wasn't done typing! It could go for a boy or a girl, in America more for a girl and the uk more for a boy. I love it for a girl!

CordeliaRose · 04/11/2013 13:54

I love Kit/Kitty for a girl Thanks

mumofthemonsters808 · 04/11/2013 14:03
