Right, tell me honestly - what do you think of the name Barnaby?

I have never met one. Have you? What are they like?

Do you think a kid would be teased for the name? Not sure why, just having a niggling worry...

Thanks!

I love it.

CountingStars · 01/11/2013 18:20

It's okay, but there's so few boys names that I personally like.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 01/11/2013 18:50

It's cute

Littlecherublegs · 01/11/2013 19:25

Im not keen - I imagine Barnaby's parents are upper class, posh, maybe living in the Home Counties...
He probably would get teased where Im from!!

Northumberlandlass · 01/11/2013 19:28

I know a Barney. He's in his 30's. I like it, but he's a cool guy & name association & all that!

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 01/11/2013 19:29

I do know one. Exactly what littlecherublegs said

DurhamDurham · 01/11/2013 19:32

Sounds posh, or trying to be posh. I imagine someone rather bumbling and boring. Sorry.

Sundaedelight · 01/11/2013 19:34

I have known a few, not massively "posh" at all, quite normal really. If you like it, use it! At least he is not another Thomas or Sam.

InvaderZim · 01/11/2013 19:54

I have a good friend Barnaby. Rides a motorcycle, was home educated, wears a beard, is an engineer. He's awesome!

MyNameIsSuz · 01/11/2013 19:57

Well, I do live in the home counties and I know one, but none of us are posh! It's lovely, go for it.

TheCharWoman · 01/11/2013 20:00

Hmm, that's what worries me! We're not posh and we don't live in the Home Counties! Would I be setting my son up for a lifetime of sniggers? Hopefully someone who has a DS called Barnaby might reply and reassure me...

I like it! I think it's cute for a baby and a little boy, yet cool for a teen and grown up.

AlwaysOneMissing · 01/11/2013 20:51

I'm sorry, I don't like it at all. I have heard of one Barnaby, and the general consensus was that it was not a nice name and the poor boy would have to endure it his whole life.
Sorry, I know that is harsh.

devonsmummy · 01/11/2013 20:54

Don't know any barnaby's but knew a Barney at school - very popular boy

Rosencrantz · 01/11/2013 21:09

The Barnaby I know is a kids TV presenter. quite famous too!

EthethethethChrisWaddle · 03/11/2013 23:11

I have a Barnaby. We are a long way from being posh, I just loved the name. We live in a quite rough town with huge council estates.

He's never been teased or had the mickey taken out of him for his name (though he's only 6) Only one person has ever mentioned the purple dinosaur to me.

The only thing is Barney is quite a common dogs name, but that's never bothered me. In fact my Barney was quite impressed that Blue Peter had a presenter and a dog both named after him! Grin

Littlefish · 03/11/2013 23:13

I love it. It was top of my list of dd had been a boy.

Littlefish · 03/11/2013 23:13

if, not of.

fliss02 · 03/11/2013 23:16

I love it. Great name that you don't hear too often.

Mouldypineapple · 03/11/2013 23:16

I like it. Unusual but not weird.
Never met one although do have vague recollections of Barnaby the Bear TV show when I was little. I just googled it and its on YouTube! There is also a Barnaby Bear cartoon apparently. Hope that helps!

elQuintoConyo · 03/11/2013 23:16

We have a Barnaby, aged two, never shortened.
He suits his name to a T.
We're neither posh, nor in home counties (which ones are those, btw?).
We don't know any others of any age.

jobwoes · 04/11/2013 09:53

Love it. I have met one, at school, and he was kind of naughty and not at all posh.

neolara · 04/11/2013 09:57

I'm afraid I think it's absolutely dreadful. I know two Barnabys - one in his 30s and one aged about 9.

curiousgeorgie · 04/11/2013 10:56

I know one and he's adorable, they call him Barney.

(I also used to know one in college so would be about 30 now, great guy! Hilarious)

Love it!
