Emilia?

I love the sound of names ending in ia such as Olivia and Sophia but think they are too popular .... And then found Emilia
But will Emilia get confused with Amelia?

Know an emila nick name Emmy. Always liked it.

I've a relative called Emilia, nn milly.

My friend has an Emilia. They call her by a nn but are seriously considering changing the birth cert to Emily as she is forever getting Amelia.

I have an Amelia and went for that so I didn't have to spend my time saying "No, not A-melia, E-milia" but then Amelia is popular now.

I also have a Claudia

Other -ia names...

Lavinia
Cordelia
Lydia
Dalia

Although the spelling is different, when I meet an Amelia, Emelia or Emilia I just put them all into the same name group. Amelia has been popular for a good while now, but if you added all of the spelling variations together, from the ons stats, I think it would be the most popular name.

If I were to go for one, I'd spell it with what I consider the correct/standard spelling of Amelia as I think it's prettier.

How about Ameline instead?

I know 2 who are babies, 1 who is 1 and 1 who is a toddler if that kind of thing makes any difference to you?

I went to school with one. Still friends, love her to bits but she drives me bloody mad! Worst driver in the world. Fantastic name. And it's nothing like Amelia.

I struggle to differentiate Emilia and Amelia, they're the same name, just different forms.

I do prefer Emilia of the two though. If you want the nn Emmy then I'd go with Emilia.

I went to school with an Amelia and her friends called her Meals , really put me off. I don't think Emilia would suffer the same nickname fate.

DH wanted this for dd2 and while I really like it and wanted to use it since I first read othello for GCSE, I knew it would get lumped in with Amelia which, although nice, is everywhere.

We named our DD Emilia....she's always called Emmie though. Wasn't keen on any of the abbreviated versions of Amelia, hence we went for Emilia instead. Can't say its ever caused problems really. Few incorrect spellings, but compare with spelling our surname, Emilia is a breeze
