Isaac or Tobias?

I love them both. I really love Toby as a nickname but I've just had a call from my mum (who honestly doesn't have a problem with what we call our son) going "you can't call him Toby, I've just realised it sounds like Jobby!" We're Scottish and jobby (meaning poo) is a word quite commonly used where I live but I'm doubtful that anyone would actually pick up on it.

Any advice?

I know a Tobias it's lovely. I can't understand the obsession with nick names on here I loathe people messing with my name same goes for my DCs why take a nice name and piss about with it.

sonly do I really sound obsessed about nicknames? Did you honestly not think about what your child might end up having as a nickname? My parents didn't and it really fucked me over all through school. I can't think of any nicknames for Isaac and I still love it. I don't get people who assume things about others

Yes!

I am Scottish and in my accent, Toby doesn't sound like Jobby. It's Toe-by not Tobby. But I prefer Isaac, lovely name, and the only nicknames I'm aware of are Zac (quite cool) or Ike (retro Anerican) so that helps too. (You definitely do have to consider nicknames IMO: you don't want your child to go through life with a name you hate, and that's what'll happen if there's a common nickname for their given name.)

Toby is a bit babyish. But no Toby doesn't rhyme with 'jobby', I don't think anyone would make that connection. They might think 'boaby' however!

Isaac is lovely. I love Tobias, but am not so keen on Toby as a nickname.

I didn't think it sounded like jobby either it was just my mum who thought so then :) and I've heard boaby used as a nice nickname occasionally so that wouldn't really bother me.

They are both lovely names but Isaac wins for me, it has such a lovely meaning.
