Which do you prefer and are they pronounced the same? I can't decide which spelling to go for.

Isobel :)

If you insist on the a then Isabel

loopydoo · 24/10/2013 15:40

You can also have Isobel which seems Scottish in origin.

I like everything French and so I think I'd go with Isabelle but that's just me.

Dolallytats · 24/10/2013 15:41

I like Isabelle best, Isabel feels like I forgot to finish spelling it!!

Frikadellen · 24/10/2013 16:21

Isabelle

daughterofafarmer · 24/10/2013 17:16

Isobel

But then I'm Scottish!

PaperPomPom · 24/10/2013 17:37

Isabel. With the a. I think that's the Spanish in the family swaying me though.

squoosh · 24/10/2013 17:41

Isabelle, not keen on Isobel.

RobinSparkles · 24/10/2013 17:44

I prefer it with an A as the O makes me want to pronounce it as Is-oh-bel.

I don't think that O looks as pretty as A when you see it written down either.

Thisuserhasblockedyou · 24/10/2013 17:50

Isabelle but second Isabella

Jenologist · 24/10/2013 17:54

Oooh, that's one of the names I like! Think I prefer Isobel, but am Scottish. Also like Imogen....

looki · 24/10/2013 17:54

Isabel and yes they are pronounced the same. Isabelle spelling is a bit frilly for my taste.

squoosh · 24/10/2013 17:57

Isobel makes me think of some old bat with a cat's bum expression on her face................no idea why, although I am in Scotland so maybe I've encountered a few like that.

ScooseIsLoose · 24/10/2013 17:57

I prefer Isabelle although may be biased as that's the name of dd

soontobemumofthree · 24/10/2013 17:59

Isabelle

Littlecherublegs · 24/10/2013 18:00

I always thought it was spelt Isabelle until my friend had an Isobel!
Both are fine though I think Id go for Isabelle.

SoonToBeSix · 24/10/2013 19:40

Thanks I think we will go with Isabelle .

Isobel

Idreamofsunshine · 24/10/2013 20:30

Isabelle.

nennypops · 24/10/2013 20:32

Definitely Isabel. Can't see what the extra "le" adds apart from unnecessary fuss.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/10/2013 20:37

IsObel is prettiest, imvho.

GrandstandingBlueTit · 24/10/2013 22:38

Isobel - Scottish/Anglo
Isabel - Spanish
Isabelle - French
Isabella - Italian

And then there's a myriad different bastardised Ysabelle, Isobelle, etc, spellings.

Be prepared to always, always, always have to spell it out. :)

WhereMyMilk · 24/10/2013 22:47

Could always try Izabell like one of DS's friends-yes I did hoike my best judgy knickers up for that one!

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 24/10/2013 22:49

Isabel .... I have a 12 yo variety Grin
