The only ones I like are Beatrix and Pippa.

Is Bathsheba a joke?? (Genuine question) Smile

Littlecherublegs · 24/10/2013 13:11

The only one I like is Beatrix though actually prefer Beatrice.

MrsSickBucket · 24/10/2013 13:12

Just Pippa for me I'm afraid

Pinkbell123 · 24/10/2013 14:11

I love love love Christabel! Was my name of choice if this little one was a girl Hmm

NewbieMcNewbie · 24/10/2013 14:13

Love Pippa but it was ruined for me after people on here said it meant lots of rude things in other languages!

MoonHare · 24/10/2013 14:50

Ooh strange mix of names, they don't seem the same 'type' to me so you must have eclectic tastes.

Probably Pippa and Beatrix but I second what Newbie says about the meaning of Pippa in other languages.

Really dislike Dorothy, tried to like it because of the wonderful Wizard of Oz but can only think, frumpy librarian. And Dottie - just no.

Not a fan of any names ending in bel.

Mary-Lou sounds a bit red-neck to me and Bathsheba too clunky.

Henrietta, not sure. Harriet seems prettier while still being strong and not girly??

jellybeans · 24/10/2013 14:54

Pippa...like, prefer Philippa

Mary-Louisa (Mary-Lou for NN)..like

Beatrix....OK

Dorothy (Dottie for NN)...hugely dislike

Bathsheba...wow really hate this, no offence

Henrietta...dislike

Mirabel...like

Cristobel (christy maybe for short)....OK

LoriGrimes · 24/10/2013 14:55

Love Dorothy

Ruprekt · 24/10/2013 14:58

Would you want to be called Bathsheba? GrinGrin

Imogen, Eleanor, Eva, Bathsheba, Violet.......pmsl....don't do this to your DD...there are some lovely names out there.

YDdraigGoch · 24/10/2013 14:59

Pippa - like it, but it's not a name, it's a nick name

Mary-Louisa (Mary-Lou for NN) - only OK if your surname is Walton

Beatrix - Lestrange? A bit HP thesedays, but Beatrice is nice

Dorothy (Dottie for NN) - like it, and like Dottie

Bathsheba - you're having a laugh

Henrietta - like it

Mirabel - OK if you're Spanish

Cristobel (christy maybe for short) - OK if you're Spanish

comedaygoday · 24/10/2013 15:00

Pippa : is ok, but prefer Philippa
Mary-Louisa: Really like both Mary and Louisa, but together far too cutesy.
Dorothy: Like this. Prefer Dorothea which is lovely.
Mirabel: sounds trashy (sorry)
Christabel: ok
Bathsheba: why? Don't think either biblical or Hardy Bathsheba particularly worth being named after.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/10/2013 20:39

I like Christabel a lot - mostly because of the poem.
Hate Bathsheba - sorry but I think it's beyond dreadful.

notadoctor · 24/10/2013 20:51

I really like Dottie, Mirabel and Christabel. I quite like Pippa too.

Anri · 25/10/2013 03:11

Bathsheba makes me think of Bathsheba Everdine. I like it, but I suspect it's too much for a person to easily wear. It would be nice in the middle spot with the right first name.

I like Beatrix and Dorothy best from your list. Dottie is very cute. The HP character was Bellatrix, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I don't dislike any of your names.

brightnearly · 25/10/2013 03:48

Bathsheba - no.
Harriet - not particularly pretty, i tend to think of harried Harriet.
Mary-Lou - there's a song, isn't there?
Dorothy - very early last century, nn could also be Dolly. How about Dolly Mae?
Henrietta - stuffy
Mirabel or Mirabelle - a miracle of beauty, pretty but I once new a horse called Mirabelle
Pippa - no
Cristobel - prettier
Beatrix - Potter nn Bea? Beatrice seems softer.

NumberTwoDue · 25/10/2013 07:37

I like Christobel and Harriet. Know a Dorothea who's a Dottie and think that's nicer than Dorothy.

ReturnPlacenta · 25/10/2013 16:52

The only one I like is Beatrix. Love Miriam, but can't get onside with Mirabel.

telsa · 25/10/2013 18:30

Love Christobel and Mirabel

chocoluvva · 25/10/2013 18:33

Mary-Lou or Dotty would be my choices from your list. Smile

bridgetsmum · 25/10/2013 18:42

Like Beatrix but prefer Beatrice

Mary-Lou -no. Hate hate hate hyphenated first names.

Bathsheba - beyond ridiculous, please don't do that to your child

Rhubarbgarden · 25/10/2013 22:39

I love Bathsheba.

NachoAddict · 25/10/2013 22:48

Love Pippa, like Beatrix, not keen on any of the others.

Bathsheba sounds like you are calling your dog for its bath. Sorry.

CommanderShepard · 25/10/2013 23:07

I had a great aunt named Dorothy who went by Dorrie, which I think is lovely.

Tikkamasala · 26/10/2013 00:24

Pippa

I like Beatrice but not Beatrix

FriendlyElephant · 26/10/2013 01:53

From that list, I don't mind Beatrix or Dorothy (or Pippa but that's a nickname).
