Marianne Elodie or Beatrice Catherine?

...or Marianne Amelie?

We have a family French Connection, so want a name that sounds good in both languages. Surname begins with L, two syllables. Think this is now the (final) final short list, so which do you prefer?

casa, I would beg to differ! Béatrice is definitely an "older" name than Elodie. I know lots of teenaged Elodies but have never met a Béatrice younger than me (I'm 40).

Catherine is a generation back from Béatrice, i.e. mainly women now in their late 50s and 60s.

And I don't think I've ever met a single Marianne in my whole life (in France - I know a British Marianne)!

Marianne would be a strange name choice in France, anyway, because it's so extremely patriotic! It would be like calling your child "Britannia" in the UK

I guess my vote would be for Elodie Catherine if there's a chance your child will be spending any significant amount of time in France.

Oh, I missed Amélie as an option! That's definitely a more current option. Lots of little Amélies around at the moment! Amélie Catherine sounds good...

Beatrice Catherine

I agree Beatrice and Catherine are older names in France (popular in the 1960s), but they're old enough to be retro cool again

Whereas Marianne didn't start its decline until the mid-90s, as did Elodie and Amélie, most of whom were born in the mid 80s to early 90s.
So all 3 sound dated rather than retro. (Though I agree that Amélie is still quite popular).

I just like Beatrice best! It's classy

Beatrice Catherine is nice if you are French.

OP here - we don't live in France, just spend two weeks there in summer every year. My husband doesn't even speak French to our children (grr ), but as we have a French Connection, and they have a French grandmother living nearby, I'd like names that sounds nice in both languages. Couldn't care less how current/dated they'd be considered in France!
