Exactly what Bunny said. Frilly, too uppy-downy, too many vowels and sounds like a Disney princess.

Why are some people linking Ariadne with spiders?? It doesn't mean that at all! You are confusing it with arachne.

Ariadne (for which Ariana is a potential nickname, and Arianna is in any case the Italian version of Ariadne) means "the most pure".

I really don't like it. I know quite a few Ariana's under 5 so it seems quite a popular name, unfortunately. Too frilly and Disney connotations.

There was a spider called Ariadne in Creepy Crawlies and another one in Knightmare (80s kids TV progs) so that may be why. But I have to say I have always confused Ariadne and Arachne so I have learnt something today.

Lovely name, to me it is a strong name, anything but Disney-esque. I don't like it pronounced with a long a though.

I'm afraid I never watched 80s kids programmes, I didn't know that! But still, arachne = spider. Ariadne = girl with ball of thread to save Theseus from the Minotaur

My dd1 is Ariane, always get lovely comments when she tells people her name.

I worked with an Ariane, lovely name and person, she got called Ari for short. Her mum was French. If I hadn't had a boy last time we were considering it. Congratulations on your dd!

I wanted DD2 to be Ariana but it's a bit of a mouthful with our surname. Beautiful name.
