Penelope or Sidney?

HI, I'm a long time lurker and would love to hear some opinions on these names.
I'm not pregnant but am having my mirena removed on Monday in order to conceive DC2.
So far we have disagreed on all names except these two. I wasn't keen on either at first but they've really grown on me.
I think Penny is a really sweet nickname but I'm not so sure about Sid.
Also, we'd love to use both of our mothers names as middle names so it would be Penelope Mary Jayne.

Well......what do you think????

They are very different in my opinion. I love Penelope and would use it for my own child.

Sidney is not a name I would personally use, but it's nice!

DP came up with both of the names, he loves Syd Barrett so I guess that's where that one came from! Another name we both like is William but it's very common where we live. We like the idea of 'unusual regular' names so any suggestions for a boy would be appreciated!

I prefer Penelope but with nn Nell or Nellie

Love Penelope but not Penny, Nell is better.

Sidney, no sorry. Just a very different name to Penelope.

What about Dexter?

I like Sidney but prefer it spelt Sydney for a girl.

I like Pen and Sid as nicknames but don't like either of the long versions.

Penelope and Sidney sound like they should be the slightly posher neighbours of Terry and June.

If Sidney - please spell it 'Cydnie'

I love Sidney, it's DD's middle name and I wouldn't mess with the spelling at all.

I would say Penelope. Sidney is a great name, but it does just make me think of old dudes in string vests.

Sid is a brilliant NN, though, and if you wanted to use it you could have Sidonie as her full name. It's French, and lovely. Sidonie

Oh I assumed Sidney was for a possible boy.

I'd called a female Sid Cyd, like Cyd Charisse.

I thought Sidney was for a boy, given the spelling. If you want it for a girl, then Sydney is much better.

Oh man. I've totally got the wrong end of the stick - Sidney is great for a little boy.

Why not just Nell? It's a lovely name, normal but not commonly used. I'm not partial to Sidney but then I had a female cat with that name when I was young

I like the name Nell and would use it as a nn but DP chose Penelope because he loves the nn Penny. The film 'Nell' puts me off a bit if I'm honest!!

Pen is amusing when written with words badly spaced.
