Love it. May steal it for any future dds. :)

CalamityJones · 18/10/2013 11:14

Lily Allen's dd, I think it's going to get quite popular. Lovely though

Dollydaydream99 · 18/10/2013 11:15

Thanks so much for all your input ladies, mumsnet at its best when you need good, honest opinions!!

Viviennemary - I'd be very interested to hear some examples of what you consider to be attractive sounding names if you'd be so kind, just to gauge whether I ought to reconsider or whether it's just you & i have very different personal taste? :)

Lovely name but I think it is in for a surge in popularity thanks to Lily Allen.

Bowlersarm · 18/10/2013 11:30

Tamzin outhwaite has a Marnie, too.

SnakeyMcBadass · 18/10/2013 11:36

I'm a Marnie. No one under the age of 40 has ever made the Hitchcock connection. I have had 'Marlene' quite a bit though, in a Boycie drawl (Boycie's wife in 'Only Fools And Horses' was called Marlene, but Del Boy always called her Marnie). I hate when people shorten it to 'Marn', as it sounds like a noise you make when coughing up phlegm (imo). I have never met another Marnie in RL.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 18/10/2013 11:36

Lovely name, know two - one adult and one toddler. I also like Marley, but couldn't use either for reasons to do with extended family.

chimchiminee · 18/10/2013 11:42

Absolutely love it and will probably use it if I ever have a DD.

My other favourites are Romy, Purdy and Bonnie.

BinarySolo · 18/10/2013 12:19

I really like it. Makes me think of the 50s probably because it was the name of Dominic West's character's wife in The Hour. She turned out to be pretty strong in the end too.

EvangelineGracelyn · 18/10/2013 17:48

Reminds me of Marnie Simpson off of Geordie Shore!

ErrolTheDragon · 18/10/2013 17:54

I'm 52 and while it does make me think of the film, the eponymous Marnie wasn't a dreadful character.

If you love the name, go for it. There's not many names which don't have some odd connection!

WhoKnowsWhereTheBonnetsGo · 18/10/2013 18:01

I don't really like it, it isn't a very strong name. I think she will go through life being asked what it's short for, it does sound like a nickname, or a cat/dog name. The film was the first thing that sprang to mind for me too.

LauraChant · 18/10/2013 18:04

I like it, and I think of the book When Marnie Was There, not the Hitchcock film.

Frikadellen · 18/10/2013 18:13

I love it it is a beautiful name.

CointreauVersial · 18/10/2013 18:18

Friends of ours have a 13yo Marnie.

Lovely name, pretty uncommon without being weird/odd.

Norfolknway · 18/10/2013 18:20

Lovely. We know 1 and she is 17 and a really lovely girl.

Lubiloo · 19/10/2013 08:22

Lovely

JazzAnnNonMouse · 19/10/2013 10:16

I like it - no connotations for me.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 19/10/2013 10:16

(Never heard of the film)

juneau · 19/10/2013 10:20

I like it, but then I loved the book 'When Marnie Was There' as a kid, so for me it has good connotations.

Dollydaydream99 · 20/10/2013 17:45

Thanks guys - think general consensus is positive which means I love it even more now ??

I like it,but everyone around here mis hears it as Armani ...

BuntyPenfold · 21/10/2013 00:25

I like it, I know one aged 12 or so. I've never heard a negative comment.
I'd never seen or heard of the Hitchcock film.

NatureAbhorsAHoover · 21/10/2013 09:17

Can I just add that one of the press secretaries to a V senior royal is a Marnie. She's lovely. And I know it's the name of a Hitchcock heroine and I've possibly seen the film way back when... but wouldn't have the foggiest whether it has any negative connotations - and I suspect that's true for 99% of people.

fluffythelabcat · 21/10/2013 17:24

EvangelineGracelyn I agree, that Geordie Shore girl has ruined Marnie for me, not that I watch Geordie Shore of course (!)
