I love this name and its NNs; Lottie, Lori or Etta.
Having run it by a couple of friends feedback hasn't been so great. Apparently it's a working class western name in the US or makes people think of country music??

What do you think?

Other front runners at the moment are; Tabitha (currently being vetoed by DP for being too posh), Liberty or Katherine (too boring?)

Lynn.

BoyMeetsWorld · 15/10/2013 17:48

I quite like it. But do think general associations not so great.

mrsWast · 15/10/2013 17:53

it's a bit country and western, isn't it? tabitha is a fabulous name (possibly biased).

CruCru · 15/10/2013 18:51

It's a lovely name.

ginzillas · 15/10/2013 19:52

It's my mother in law's name (although slightly different spelling) and she is mainly known as Laurie or Lol.
Think she was 'Lolly' when younger. I like it.

ginzillas · 15/10/2013 19:52

I love Liberty too! But it was vetoed by DH.

PrincessRomy · 15/10/2013 19:58

I love Loretta. Was on the list if ds had turned out to be a dd.

PoppyAmex · 15/10/2013 20:01

Liberty is nice.

Loretta evokes the image of a 65 year old country singer in Nashville with red lipstick and a cigarette in the corner of her mouth.

GreatJoanUmber · 15/10/2013 20:16

To me it's very much Monty Python- "I want to be a woman now, and you can call me Loretta" - not sure I could shake off that association!

ArabellaBeaumaris · 17/10/2013 22:24

Loretta Bobbit. Can't get rid of the association.

ArabellaBeaumaris · 17/10/2013 22:25

Sorry! My association was wrong - it's Lorena Bobbit.

C0ffeeN0biscuit · 17/10/2013 22:27

I knew a drippy slightly condescending one years ago. Im going to say no.

PoppadomPreach · 17/10/2013 22:30

For GreatJoan........

I want to be called "Loretta"

(Sorry OP, Monty Python was my first thought too!)

CressidaMontgomery · 17/10/2013 22:33

Horrible and hard sounding

MacaYoniandCheese · 17/10/2013 22:35

Diner waitress. Sorry Sad. How about just Etta? Or Harriet? Charlotte?

Wishfulmakeupping · 17/10/2013 22:39

I'm not a fan -Etta however is far far nicer

ImAFrequentNameChanger · 18/10/2013 09:10

First thought is that it reminds me of the Nick Cave song 'The Curse Of Millhaven' Cool song but not sure I'd name my DD it.

buttercrumble · 18/10/2013 09:10

Sorry not keen at all

BettyBi0 · 18/10/2013 13:48

Thanks for your honesty.
I just realised that the Nick Cave song was probably where I got it from. Yikes I'm not sure what a therapist would make of that!
Another name bites the dust.

All of the nicknames are far preferable to the full name. I really like Etta and Lori as full names Smile

The connotations for me are American sleaze sorry

foofooyeah · 19/10/2013 10:39

I like it but a bit too country and western for me.

CherryLips1980 · 19/10/2013 20:15

Loretta makes me think of Family Guy first off.

That aside, I like it though.
