as the title suggests id like some name ideas as the 1s I like are apparently ridiculous, Lucifer has been a firm favourite of mine since I was young but because of religious nuts that name is ruined, mowgli is another 1 but I am putting a stop to that as people would think im being racist to my own child (im white partner is sri Lankan) Louie I like and isn't ridiculous at all but DP says no :/ for girls I like Pandora or maia but again everyone else says no Sad

I don't think you would like mine as I go for classic ones like Elizabeth and James.

how about beelzebub, ok obviously also got religious connotations but i find it extremely likeable?

rootypig · 12/10/2013 19:42
Hmm
morgs22 · 12/10/2013 19:42

I like some "normal" names lol Isaac DP suggested it and I quite like it, noah I love. Beelzebub might push my family and poor partner over the edge and get me committed lol

If you like unusual names...

Attila or Genghis (just cross your fingers they don't live up to it)

Boadicea or Boudica?

Just don't name your kid 'Titus' (apologies to anyone who has) - it gets changed to 'tight-arse' in the playground.

RalphtheTimid · 12/10/2013 23:22

Lemuel

I think Pandora is lovely.

Titus is no more likely to be called tight arse as a William is Willy! Most names can be teased with a little imagination.

nooka · 13/10/2013 22:01

I think you need to be just a little bit more prescriptive in your request morgs as your name choices veer from the totally ridiculous (Lucifer, Mowgli) to the mainstream (Louie).

Are there any types of names that you don't like, or are naturally drawn to? Can you give us a longer list of names you like so people can think of other similar names?

Nutty names in my view are for pets, not people - we had family dogs called Titus and Yorick there is no way I'd call a child either.

If you say 'Titus' with a Bristol accent... :) Maybe it's a class/regional thing.

nooka Awesome names for dogs, I have to say!

MiniMonty · 14/10/2013 01:06

Pandora? Are you serious ? The idiot wife of Epimethius who, having been told (by a GOD) not to, opened a hidden jar that was supposed to stay closed until the end of time. Couldn't resist and let loose of the horrors of the world... I'd have trouble naming my daughter after her - and imagine the teasing ! Adolf is not a popular name in Germany.

Lucifer ? 'nuf said...

If you want an "unusual" name go for Ichabod. Or Corneleus. For girls try Calypso, Hera, Cassandra (who will never be believed) or just George.

For twins - how about Jake and Elwood, French and Saunders, Flannegan and Allen?

Tread carefully here. It's all good fun thinking up the craziest name in the playground now - but wait until your boy named Sue comes home black and blue...

BlueChampagne · 14/10/2013 15:15

How about Vashti for a girl?

Has your partner come up with any suggestions?

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 14/10/2013 15:47

If you are having trouble using it because of the myth, Panthea is similar. There are many other Pandora which could be inspiration (rather than just one in a misogynistic story...) if you wanted to try to argue for it, but it reads like you're having enough trouble finding one to keep the peace.
