Pronounced roar-rhe (like Rory) or Ru-rhe?

I always though it was pretty much the same as Rory, but a friend disagrees.....

Most people do pronounce it like Rory, but split it into the two words- rua rí- and you can see the difference in pronunciation.

I'd pronounce it the same as Ruaraidh...roo-a,ree.

Roo-ah-ri I think. Gorgeous name!! I also love Rory.

I'm sure some Ruairis pronounce their name as the anglicised Rory but technically it should be roo-a-ree.

Personally I think plain old Rory is miles nicer. Roo-a-ree just sounds so unattractive to my ears.

Either is fine. Irish names not only tend to have a variety of spellings, but many have various pronunciations, probably depending on where you are in the country - e.g. Aine = on-ya or an-ya; roisin = roh-sheen or row-sheen. Am sure there are plenty more too Smile
