What sort of name is this? What does it make you think? Is it a go-anywhere name or belonging to a certain style/class?

I think I love it, but I'm not sure...

I love Clara. I think it's pretty without being overtly sweet....I think it's strong and has elegance too. I think it's quite a middle class name...but not in a bad way.

SingSoftKittyToMe · 10/10/2013 03:15

I like the name

commsgirl · 10/10/2013 07:58

I love it! I think this baby may just be a Clara if it's a girl. It's pretty and girly without being too frilly.

smithwillsam · 10/10/2013 08:18

Love this, pretty but not OTT

wasabipeanut · 10/10/2013 14:05

Love it - I have one!

BlueStarsAtNight · 10/10/2013 22:50

I think ICameOnTheJitney had it spot on, that's exactly how I see Clara too. I love the name!

Sarahplane · 10/10/2013 22:53

I love it, it's pretty, strong and not too girly.

TheNunsOfGavarone · 11/10/2013 14:22

Distinctive, lovely and elegant.

Boggler · 11/10/2013 14:29

Absolutely love it, but be sure about how you want it pronounced as some say claire-a and others clarrrra both are lovely IMO

BecauseYoureGorgeous · 14/10/2013 17:20

I like it, though I do know a Clara who is a pain and it's hard not to think about her!

PuffPants · 16/10/2013 00:01

Bloody love it. It's a funny one though, it gets mentioned a lot on Mumsnet but is only about 177 on the ONS baby names list so actually very rare.

PuffPants · 16/10/2013 00:04

Just looked it up. Ranked 179 in 2012.

squiddle · 16/10/2013 10:19

Love love love Clara. Go for it.

Em2121 · 16/10/2013 10:23

Love it!

AllThreeWays · 16/10/2013 10:35

I love it, but I would assume you are a Dr Who fan

amandine07 · 16/10/2013 15:24

Clara is a very pretty girls name without being too overly frilly sounding.
I don't watch Dr Who so there are no associations with that, simply a lovely name!

notadoctor · 18/10/2013 08:39

I love it. I'd classify it as classic with a touch (but just a touch) of granny chic!

Theas18 · 18/10/2013 11:47

Love it. i know a Clara in her early 20s. Classic name without any " preconceptions" IYSWIM.

strawberrypenguin · 18/10/2013 11:54

I love it just be aware as a pp said that its very Dr Who at the moment. Fab name though

stickygotstuck · 18/10/2013 12:05

I have one - beautiful name if pronounced 'properly' Wink. But it is a very common name in my neck of the woods.

The Dr. Who thing is neither here nor there, really. Mine was 4 by the time Dr. Who's came out. Who would have guessed? My point is, it can happen anytime down the line with any other programs/books/'slebs.

In fact, we had another name lined up which DH vetoed because he said he reminded him of an 80's TV program. Thing is, that name would not have meant anything to DD's classmates, whereas her actual name now might. So what?

Schumann · 18/10/2013 12:11

Love it. We had this on our list.
Love it as makes me think of Clara Schumann who was married to Schumann the composer. She was a pianist herself and also Brahms was in love with her !

BettyBi0 · 18/10/2013 14:05

Not so keen on it. Reminds me of school plays, Dickensian flower seller, knees up mother brown type olde wolde stuff.

CruCru · 19/10/2013 14:52

I like this. It's good for German speakers too, easy to pronounce.
