Ben and Holly??

So.... When ds was born in 2009 we called him Benjamin, but he is known as Ben.

We're now expecting dc2 and thinking if names. I've always really loved the name Holly since I've been little. It's on our shortlist, but would people automatically associate it with the kids tv programme??

Other names we both like are Abigail and Isabelle. DH has vetoed a lot of my other suggestions - Lily, Eliza, Scarlet, Ayla, Hannah, Eva, Ella and Sophie.

What do you think? Can I have a Ben and Holly?

Of course you can. I dont think its the sort of cartoon that has staying power in the long term,

You can and I love both names. People will associate it with the programme and may even think that's how you've named them. It's up to you how much that bothers you, if at all x congratulations btw x

Of course you can! I have a Ben who would have been Holly had he been a girl. What fabulous taste you have!

I thought of the programme straight away. But programmes don't usually run for ever, so in a few years maybe no-one will think of it.

i know a couple who have a boy and girl called ben and holly. the girl is the eldest tho.

it does immediately make me think of the prog but i dont think its a problem.

it has been about a number of years already and seems quite popular so i cant see the prog disappearing anytime soon tho.

Of course! I have a Holly and if I liked the name Ben I would go for it. This is despite having a toddler who loves the very programme!!

I also thought of the kids programme when I read it but I like both the names so no reason not to and agree in a few years program will have finished and people won't remember it.

Even if the tv show was all anybody thought of when the names were said together, they're not a pair and will be known more as individuals than siblings, particularly as they get older. At worst it could be a short term irritation if people keep saying something about it and you don't like the association. The most likely thing is that everyone forgets and you have 2 DC, each with names you love.

Sign cards etc as Holly and Ben rather than the other way round!
