Ummm, you do realise the potential for teasing if your daughter's name contains "easy", don't you? Hmm

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 01/10/2013 18:26

Somebody who I went to school with has recently named her daughter this.

Problem is, it isn't a name, it's a title and a made up one at that.

Daenerys would be infinitely better. At least that's actually her name. Or if somebody was being inspired by GoT, there are plenty of passable names in there. Arya for example I quite like.

kilmuir · 01/10/2013 18:27

Awful, very contrived

ClaraOswald · 01/10/2013 18:29

Sorry, I just laughed out loud.

Please, if you admire the character of Daenerys, just call her that. Would you call your daughter Empress, or Lady, or Marchioness?

Khaleesi is a title, not a name.

DaddyPigsMistress · 01/10/2013 18:31

I am a massive GOT fan but no. Dont do it

BunnyLebowski · 01/10/2013 18:32

What Clara said.

PollyPlummer · 01/10/2013 18:33

I would go for Daenerys rather than khaleesi for the reasons posted by Clara, which is quite a nice albeit unusual name.

xfilefan · 01/10/2013 18:33

I really like it. Arya is really nice too. I dont see a problem with it being a title rather than a name, I think its prettier than Daenerys. And it sounds like a name. You could spell it Khalissi or Kalissi or Calissi if you were worried about it sounding too like 'easy'.

PollyPlummer · 01/10/2013 18:37

What would put me off is that knowing GRRM, Daenerys could well turn out to be a bad guy, so might not be the strong aspirational character she is at the moment.

Xenadog · 01/10/2013 18:43

Daenerys is nice but I prefer Arya. I wouldn't go down the route of Khaleesi though - it is a title not a name.

Still, each to his own.

MotherOfDragon · 01/10/2013 18:45

I love GOT but this is madness. A dog perhaps but a person!!!!!

I really like Arya and Also Cersai

CajaDeLaMemoria · 01/10/2013 18:45

Yep, I wouldn't name your daughter after a GOT character until the end. You simply don't know what is coming, but GRRM has already said it wouldn't be what you expect - so she'll probably do something horrid.

DontmindifIdo · 01/10/2013 18:46

Hmm, at some point, she'll read the book to find out who she's named after, or her friends will. While overall the character is a strong one, in the first book she's up to a lot of quite explicit stuff with her drogo (or whatever his name is), and doesn't she breast feed dragons? As a rule, if you are going to name your dc after a character in a book, reread said book while pg thinking at all times "how would a school bully take this passage". Breast feeding dragons and all the nipple tweaking might be a tad much for a mean child to overlook...

TarkaTheOtter · 01/10/2013 18:48

It's a bit like "princess" which I'm not keen on. I'd have thought tv/film inspired names are also likely to date quickly in general.

Prawntoast · 01/10/2013 18:50

No, firstly it's a title not a name and secondly and more important I reckon by the end of Game of Thrones she's going to a grade A loon.

Prawntoast · 01/10/2013 18:50

That's going to be a grade A loon!

PollyPlummer · 01/10/2013 18:53

What about Lyanna ?

She was a strong woman. At least you know she isn't going to go raggo and kill everyone with her dragons.

PeppiNephrine · 01/10/2013 18:55

Please don't. For the love of the Old Gods, don't do that to a child. You might as well give them a Klingon name.

PollyPlummer · 01/10/2013 18:58

Grin at for the love of the Old Gods.

picnicbasketcase · 01/10/2013 19:04

If you think Princess is a shit name, apply the same logic to Khaleesi. Wife of a Horse Lord. Hmm

r3d3 · 01/10/2013 19:08

My daughters are called Princess and Lady so I think Khaleesi is fine.

TweenageAngst · 01/10/2013 19:12

Spelt differently but pronounced the same as a horrible virus which affects cats and rabbits. Sorry not a fan

Chivetalking · 01/10/2013 19:13

Apart from it being a title, it will date.

If you really love it how about using it as a middle name she can disown later?

Viviennemary · 01/10/2013 19:16

Never heard of it. It sounds like a cleaning fluid.

DontmindifIdo · 02/10/2013 08:16

Actually, it's not like calling your dd princess, it's the GOT equivalent to calling her Queenie...
