Jacob?

Came across the name Jacob this morning and found it quite appealing. Does anyone have any views on this name - too popular, too old-fashioned etc? Can anyone suggest any similar names?

What I like about it is that it is simple and has a solid sound, but is not too ordinary, if that makes sense.

I like Thomas for a middle name, but as a first name it doesn't go with our surname.

I quite like Patrick but I don't think DH does.

I have a Jacob, love it but obviously biased! If DD had been a boy she would have been Elliot.

We have a Jacob too, was a name me and hubby have loved even before we had a family. I hear all the time about how popular it is but my son is almost 4 and have never met another at any baby groups/playgroups we go to, he's also just started pre-school and he is the only one.

I'm not keen on Jake even tho I know a couple of older Jacob's that go by Jake never Jacob. No-one has ever called mine Jake, as his nickname we use JayJay or Coby.
