Struggling for a middle name for Iris. Here are by thoughts so far.

Iris Cleo
Iris Tansy
Iris Kitty
Iris Violet
Iris Noelle (due at Xmas)

Also do you think Iris will become the next Ruby or Isla? Both names I love but too popular at the moment.

I do think Iris has the potential to get very popular quite quickly. This website shows the increasing use of it in the UK. names.darkgreener.com/#iris

I like Iris Violet best from your list.

I do think that Iris will become more popular, however, I know tons of little Islas and a few Rubys, but don't know a single Iris!

toobreathless · 30/09/2013 00:40

I share your concerns about Iris becoming trendy and therefore dating. It was pretty much the only reason we didn't use for DD2 who arrived in April.

I think Iris Violet is a bit much with two flowery names.

Iris Elizabeth
Iris Aurelia
Iris Penelope
Iris Helena
Iris Evangeline
Iris Caroline

I love it. But then I don't really care about the name trends or if it will seem dated at some point. She'll obviously get older and what's really that bad about having a name that's obviously from a certain time period.

I quite like Iris Caroline...

telsa · 30/09/2013 09:07

Iris is way too popular. Know several already.

TallulahBetty · 30/09/2013 09:12

LOVE Iris. Beautiful. Iris Noelle is amazing Smile

Tavv · 30/09/2013 11:19

I like Cleo, but Iris Cleo sounds like I Risk Leo.

Also like Iris Noelle.

Iris is already quite popular now I think.

AnnaNimitty · 02/10/2013 11:13

Iris Noelle is the best one from your list. Both great names and I
wouldn't worry about how popular the name is.

apperleydapperley · 02/10/2013 11:30

My grandmother was Iris Clarissa which I think is lovely.

squoosh · 02/10/2013 11:34

Anything but Noelle!

Noelle is on a par with Brenda and Doreen. Or maybe that's just in Ireland. Is Noelle now trendy in the UK??

AnnaNimitty · 02/10/2013 13:07

It must be only in Ireland, as I've never met anyone called Noelle.

The male form of the name, Noel is quite well known over here.

Michellephant · 02/10/2013 20:52

Haha I thought Iris was too "old lady" for a baby and growing too much in popularity so I'm actually going with the name Ruby because I think the popularity is dwindling a bit amongst new babies, and having Iris as the middle name.

kerala · 03/10/2013 13:05

You are not permitted to use iris. Mine is 7 and I thought I was being very clever picking an under used name so no more are allowed! Wink

MissBattleaxe · 03/10/2013 13:08

Iris was my grandmother's name and she was beautiful. Do use it, it's so lovely and Iris Violet is my favourite. You just imagine those two beautiful flowers whenever you say it.

telsa · 03/10/2013 13:50

Ruby Iris is lovely.

Michellephant · 04/10/2013 21:14

Thank you Telsa! I hope I never come across another one! I have a very specific (personal) reason for the name though so it'll still feel special even if I do.

I'm not sure what I would use as a middle name for a baby with the first name as Iris though so I've got no suggestions for the OP. I feel like Iris is such a strong name in its own right that it is almost overpowering all the suggestions. Maybe I would do different to what I'm doing (two two syllable names) if it is my way round, and pick a shorter or a longer middle name for Iris as a first name so the middle name doesn't seem weak? If that actually makes sense!?

I love the longer middle names that Toobreathless has suggested and I do think they aren't as overpowered by Iris as a two syllable middle name.
