I know a at called spike, he's a bit of a bruiser

Tiredtrout · 29/09/2013 06:26

I know a cat not an at

Lagoonablue · 29/09/2013 07:07

It is not a real name. Terrible.

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 29/09/2013 07:14

Spike, as in Milligan? Or Spike, as in hedgehog?

That aside, it's OK but I wouldn't use it.

Tea1Sugar · 29/09/2013 07:16

Just awful. Horrendous actually. I'm in SW London too op, but why should where you live should influence name choices?

RunningInFlipflops · 29/09/2013 07:24

Reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Shock

UriGeller · 29/09/2013 07:41

I love way out names and I'm all for people naming their kids delicious sounding words but I'm not keen on Spike because it sounds, well, too spiky to my ears. A bit unfriendly and sharp.

I like a little boy to be a Ted or a Joe. Spike seems to me like a little skinheaded tyke with an earring and snot.

(I'm pleading waaay too much imagination and not enough sleep).

DisAstrophe · 29/09/2013 08:09

It is generally a nickname I think that a boy is given or adopts in teens. When I was growing up the two young men called spike were so called because of their obsession with injecting drugs. Having said that for some reason I still like it. Can't you give another name and use spike as a nickname?

kiwik · 29/09/2013 08:12

I know a Spike, with a brother Buster. Not names I'd choose personally though.

lchats · 29/09/2013 08:19

I knew a ring-tailed lemur called Spike - nice chap but did spit a lot Wink

I like it, Spike Milligan wore it really well....

ArabellaBeaumaris · 29/09/2013 08:21

It was a nickname for Milligan.

I love it but have just called a puppy it Wink

Writerwannabe83 · 29/09/2013 10:10

Wasn't that very strange guy out of Notting Hill called Spike?? Smile

Onesleeptillwembley · 29/09/2013 12:12

OP if you're always so snippy I suggest you give your poor child a name that won't constantly raise eyebrows.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 29/09/2013 12:15

Love it, I know a 5 yo Spike and the name is great.

TallulahBetty · 29/09/2013 12:21

Goodness, erm.. no. Sorry OP but no.

DaleyBump · 29/09/2013 12:35

DP says "could she not just get a dog instead of a baby?"

Alisvolatpropiis · 29/09/2013 12:38

You're naming a person not a Doberman.

Nickname/middle name - fine I guess

First name? No

I like an unusual name don't get me wrong but not this one.

squoosh · 29/09/2013 12:38

I don't really like it, it's a bit 'I was born in 2007 and my parents are media types'. Spike's brother would be called Woody and his sister would be Tallulah.

If you do love it then give him a normal name and use Spike as a nickname. It would take a certain type of character to pull this off effortlessly, could become a bit of a burden if he's a shy, sensitive sort.

squoosh · 29/09/2013 12:40

Yes DaleyBump you've made your point, you think it sounds like a dog's name.

DaleyBump · 29/09/2013 13:26

Actually my point was that it's not just me who thinks it's a dog's name.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 29/09/2013 14:38

Buffy

KateCroydon · 29/09/2013 14:47

Only if he'll grow up to be a hot vampire.

SomethingOnce · 29/09/2013 14:54

I'm not keen, but could it be short for Spencer, if you absolutely must?
